I know right, my first thought was i should preorder this... and then I remembered all my terrain so far is forest... and then i remembered i preordered FFG moisture evaporators... sooo torn
my god its $40 a mat so 80 for a full playmat. I mean that's their x-wing/armada mat prices so it makes sense but
Also it seems the image is quite textured and has a lot of 3-d looking elements. Seems kinda odd
Edited by imlost19These are nice looking mats and it was relatively safe to assume FFG would come out with some type of gaming mat for Legion.
They have mats for X-Wing and Imperial Assault so hopefully we will see a Hoth type mat and an Endor type mat to go along with Veers and Snowtroopers as well as Leia and the Fleet troopers.
My only question is do the images on the mats signify terrain and thus provide implied cover?
Edited by C3POFETTi could see putting a ring of barricades on the old republic symbol some sort of king of the hill scenario

Yes it is $80 dollars for a full table but look at the cost of shipping to the U.S. from some of these European companies. You would be looking at about that cost if not more for a single mat.

Agreed, for a miniature game like Legion I don't really like these maps.

I would doubt it would count as cover because then you would get cover benefits with no line of sight benefits/downside.
I mean, maybe though, I don't know. I guess I would have to play it with cover like that as a 2d object and see how it works?
Not a fan of these at all...way too busy for their intended purpose (a place to put matching terrain on and play the game)

That makes sense actually you could define what area are cover height impassable... much like the old WotC maps that were 2d
Agreed, they should just be a general terrain picture and allow you to add whatever 3D terrain to it.
With the announcement of these maps would it be too crazy to think that these are going to be a tournament standard.
Would it be even crazier to think that some actual 3D terrain is on the way since they have announced an objectives pack coming soon?
Edited by C3POFETTAnd again FFG misses on the mats. They need to just make the 6x3 mats if that is what they require for their games. I had to buy a mat for Armada from another company and if I get in on Legion will have to do the same. The seam from the 2 mats does present issues in games like X-Wing and Armada where movement should be pretty precise, it might not matter as much here; but I don't want a damned seam on my game area.

6 by 3 requires a special kind of manufacturing...I know at least one popular mat company that cannot make them.
And everyone who said that ffg won’t give prizes for best painted was proven wrong. Ffg must be wathing these forums. First the terrain, now this?

A large regional game group in Eastern US was able to get 6x3 mats produced for Armada event and sold on their online store, surely Assmodee as one of the biggest game companies in the world can figure something out. FFG now has 3 games that require 6x3 mats, they need to invest in hardware or outsource to make the correct product they require for their games.
Edited by CusmPass for me I don't want pictures I of terrain on my mats. I just want the ground
I'm not a fan of the 2-D terrain on the map. I was hoping for just plain sand, grass, or snow.
Even if you need specific techniques for a 6x3, Armada, Rune Wars and Legion all use that size. The 3x3 is actually a minority at this point. They need to just bite the bullet. More so because Legion and Runewars could use the same mats pretty comfortably.
I'll probably just grab one of these: http://www.tablewar.com/the-f-a-t-mat/6x3-f-a-t-mat/
Not for me, thanks.
I'll get one of these if the game picks up and I play a lot. http://www.tablewar.com/the-f-a-t-mat/6x3-f-a-t-mat/
Huge fail. Why on earth would they have 3d terrain designs on a 2d map surface? It just boggles the mind. Now if actual terrain pieces are put on the map, they'll clash horribly with the designs *on* these mats.
Not getting these at all. Better mats are available from 3rd party vendors and have been for months.
Not really a fan of those play mats
For legion, I think these are terrible.
For X-Wing, they look pretty awesome.

I'd just use the RRG definitions of Barricades/Large Objects/Buildings. Maybe the outcroppings are Low Stone Walls or High Stone Walls.
You and your opponent just have to agree on what type of terrain they represent and decide if they completely block LOS or not.
