I remember being so disappointed last August with GenCon, I was at football practice and we were running what we call "double sessions" which is two practices a day, with a lunch break in between. I spent my whole lunch break hitting refresh waiting to see what Wave VII would be and I was so mad when all we got was "Something big is coming"

is it just me or is it funny you had to explain double sessions to a bunch of plastic toy playing nerds. Hahahaha

SOMETHING BIG IS STILL COMING?!?!?!?

Edit: He was followed up on about his "Something big is coming" comment from last year, he said something big is still coming.

if that's not an indication that thrawn, wave seven, and any other speculation was not "something big" and that an SSD is, IDK what is.

Well, just look around you. There's Dropzone Commander, and then there's... Epic 40k, which had its heyday what, like 20 years ago? It's not an accident that there's maybe one even mildly mainstream game at that scale. (Excepting Historicals, which are a wholly separate and highly splintered genre unto themselves.)

There is currently a bunch of small scale games out there. Dropzone Commander as you pointed out, the current Halo game, Dystopian Wars, and if you include 15mm you can't ignore the various Flames of War stuff. I think 15mm would have been a much more realistic scale to use.

Honestly even in the 28mm market if you remove GW stuff you may have Privateer Press's stuff coming close to GW market share the rest are no where near as large. I think that 28mm will probably kill legion success in the long run much like trying to do a CCG in the age of Magic. If you can't get that solid group of about 8 people in each venue required to get consistent games in you'll slowly see the groups die out for other games that do already have that group and scratch a similar itch.

The games are out there...

But in the case of the majority you mentioned........ do we even know when and if they are still going to be supported after their designer collapsed?

i mean, I heard they were going to be saved, but heard nothing yet on specifics...

Yeah now that I think about it that is pretty funny
