Perspective is a wondeful thing.
I saw ANH at the cinema when I was 5 and followed it up with the others. Boom, SW provided my moral framework, my religion. And my toy collection.
As an experiment, show TFA/TLJ and ANH to a child and see which they prefer. What do they take from it.
ALL the films are quite flawed. Was watching RotJ with my boys the other day and was struck by the sheer number of plot holes and corny elements. The entire Han rescue makes no sense at all as an actual plan.
SW films are knockabout science fantasy romps, not sci fi masterworks. Its the depth of the setting and the childhood fantasies that fire my imagination. So no nerd rage from me. I also read a lot of sci fi and the maturity and sense of a lot of it slaps SW round the face.
One complaint about the new films that does hold water for me is the pacing. But then most modern, action based films seem to be a kalaidoscope of blatant visual mayhem without any meaningful foundation. Maybe I'm getting old. I expect my parents/grandparents felt the same when the OT came out.
Ultimately, the new films are flawed ofc. Do I care? No. They're there, they are SW, I'll watch them. I'll enjoy them for simply being set in the SW universe and being visually spectacular. Will they change anything about how I see SW? Ofc not. I'll love SW regardless. TFA, TLJ, Solo are just films. The holes are there for my imagination to fill.
Saying that, I still think Rogue One is brilliant and love it every time I watch it.
Boycott TLJ blue ray? Fat chance, my boys would kill me.
