MONSTER TRUCK MANIA Battle Reports Thread

And hilarity.
And an epic battle is completed! @Dark Raver and I finished our game. We played my Dangerous Territory, and thanks to the doubling of points, I won 704-670, MoV 34, for a 6-5 my way. I came within 1 damage point of tabling him. . .
It was a wonderful vision to behold. 9 ISDs, 1 VSD, 8 TIE/Fs and 2 Gauntlets engaged each other in a simulated bloodbath in this epic duel between Thrawn and Vader. The battle had many heroic actions, with expert ISD-II maneuverings stealing 2 tokens from the jaws of the enemy and dodging arcs (I even used an inside turn to land on the first notch of speed three, overlapping the maneuver tool, and thereby avoiding a double arc!). ISD-IIs battled to prove their worth against the new upstart Cymoons, yet surprisingly it was the trusty ISD-I that came off best in the game, emerging practically unscathed from the conflict and accounting for a nearly full health Cymoon, whereas Thrawn's ISD-IIs all valiantly 'sank' under him, 3 in quick succession (including his), and the Cymoons then succumbed one by one, with Vader's only surviving by the power of the Dark Lord himself. Tua's even got so damaged it flew into an asteroid. Overall the battle proved that though outdated, ISD-Is are by no means obsolete, ISD-IIs and Cymoons are to be permanently feuding, TIE/Fs still rock in swarms, and Intel Officers and ECMs are paramount if you are ever to defeat an enemy fleet composed of Cymoons, or any large number of large based ships. Stripping braces with the first volley on round 2 of a 6 round game is immeasurably valuable.
Due to the fact that he out deployed me, I had to deploy all but 1 ISD before he put most of his. So I played it safe(ish), and deployed the 4 ISD-IIs in a line, with the leftmost hugging the deployment zone's vertical edge. 3 pointed straight, and the Flag, second from the left, was angled slightly inward and back a bit. The ISD-I went wide to the right, in the hopes that either he'd deploy against it, or that it would be able to flank his fleet. He deployed his fleet opposite the IIs, though in a slightly wider formation, such that his left wing could still attack my I.
I made a mistake with the commands, which meant I never swapped out EF! for STM! (my original plan) until the turn
Chimera
* died (which means I never used STM!), thereby giving him one point for free. He used SAD* to force me to move into range, and
man
but are those Cymoons nasty. He began to strip my ships of front shields on turn 2, but by turn 3 we had closed to medium (and in some cases close) range, so I was able to retaliate. Intel Officers played a major role here, forcing him to discard his braces early.
Turns 3 and 4 were bloodbaths. I don't quite remember the order, but I lost 3 ISDs (the 2 on the left, including my flagship, and the rightmost ISD-II) in quick succession. A mediocre shot and an unlucky maneuver meant that my flagship left both Tua's ISD and Vader's on 1 hull each. In retaliation, I killed his VSD and the IO Cymoon with my last ISD-II. Poor fighter rolls and ECM meant my last ISD-II survived his
Avenger
attack, dying on the ram on turn 5. The ram forced the
Avenger
to stay at close range of my last ISD, which killed it immediately after. A mix up with dials meant that Tua's ISD landed on an asteroid and met its end, giving me a last-minute victory. Vader got away on 1 hull, and the ISD-I almost intact. I think it was missing 2 shields in the end. Of the tokens, I got 5 and he got none, thanks to going speed 1 and just missing an asteroid field.
Here's the logfile .
It was a very fun game, and very tense. It could have gone either way. Had I rolled better, I could have tabled him, and had he not messed up the commands, Tua would have lived, giving him the victory.
*Intentionally misspelled. I prefer this spelling, and ultimately, it doesn't make much of a difference. . .
This probably should be here, not in the main forum:
@Green Knight vs @Bantha ends with a 531 to 291 win for me (7 -4 MoV 240).
We both were at 800, so we rolled for it, and I picked 1st player.
We played his FLEET AMBUSH!
And no, it was NOT a smart choice on my part... first time with 800 pts, untested list, grav wells and grav shifts (on both sides), lots of cards I never use... general chaos and confusion.
I had some really cold dice for a while too... and got a bit salty, but we managed to get through it. Between us 3 ISDs died, 1 Dictor, 1 QUasar and a whole lot of squads.

@Viktor Tanek vs @Rikash ends with a 455-224 victory for me (7-4 MoV 231).
We were both at 800 and rolled off. Viktor chose first and then picked my Close Range Intel Scan.
Thanks very much @Viktor Tanek for a fantastic, brutal game. I had a blast. I'll post a detailed report when I'm not dead tired. In short, I traded my carrier ISD for his Avenger ISD/Pursuant/all but 1 tie defender. Scored 6 tokens on my mission. My Interdictor was on 2 shields remaining and 1 hull left at the end of the game, limping away. Log here:

@themightyhedgehog vs @jp82729 was a 664 - 255 victory for myself (8-3, 409 MoV)
HH was first player and chose my contested outpost. An alpha strike from several of my dcap Vics was able to cripple two of the MC80s on turn two, and take them down on turn three. The remaining MC80s were able to pick off two Vics in return, but a 6-squad strike from my Quasar and some hot dice allowed my squadrons to pick off a good chunk of the Rebel squads. The last turns were the Quasar drifting around the station to keep it under Imperial control.
Crazy game with a good opponent, thanks for the game @themightyhedgehog

JJs (1st Player) vs Moodswing
Objective: Precision Strike
1490-457 (MoV 800) win for JJ
23 tokens to 6 sealed the deal. I lost 3 Assault Frigates, but Mood missed the kill on the MC-75 after an error. I was able to bring down all four ISDs however, which swung it towards me. Thanks for the game as always!
This game goes to prove I need to pay attention to ALL my and my opponents ships. As always, JJ was a superb player, and I hope his Ackbar fleet wins the whole darn thing!
@Nevole vs @Ardaedhel ends at the opening of Round 3 with a concession by Nevole after Sato's flagship goes down in flames. I'm not sure what score/MoV we're calling a concession, @GiledPallaeon . Both AF2s about to follow him into Davy Jones' Deep Space locker--but so was the beleaguered Stormhawk .
He won bid, and opted for P2. We played his OS (I think CO would've been the better choice for me, but I just really wanted to chuck that huge fistful of Vader reds).
I'm not sure I agreed with Nev's assessment that the game was lost for him. He was going to end up down a flagship and two AF2's, and possibly one of the other MC75's. But he also had at least two ISDs dead to rights already, and a full-up squadron wing with good killing potential left. I think the game would've probably played out to a 6-5 or 7-4 if we'd finished it.
MVP of the game was Entrapment Formation. I was a bit concerned about controlling commands on a fleet like this that scarfs up tokens like crazy but doesn't have a lot of ways to gain them other than classic dial -> token... but EF made sure it didn't matter if I had the nav at the right time or not. In two turns, I think I used EF for 7 speed changes (I Hondo'd for a Round 1 EF)--it's extremely good for six Star Destroyers.
All three fleet commands saw use across the whole fleet. I really like the triple-FC thing for this format. Worth going squadronless for? Ehhh... Maybe not. But certainly fun.

So Visovics and Pod finishes with a win of 7-4 to Pod, MoV 271 (609-338). We played Pod’s most wanted
Grand Admiral Thrawn was massively outdeployed by the massive TIE swarm, and an additional disruption was caused by the double G7 grav wells, however they were nothing compared to Thrawns command. Once the ships engaged, it was a bloodbath, and every decision was heartbreaking for both sides knowing that activating one ship meant the other would die. Ultimately, Sloane’s squadrons wiped the enemy squads clean, with exception of Rhymer, while the brutal combination of 3 OP in the fleet, Sloane and Avenger in an ISD 2 was enough to chew through other ISDs, most notably the objective ship. It was a really great match with the dice being surprisingly good for both (I think the program’s broken :P) and I am really grateful for Pod for putting up with all my breaks and scheduling.

Yes thanks to Vis for a very good game, I leveraged every advantage I could to gain the upper hand early on then missed the opportunity to really punish at the end with poor dial choices.
Alas my bounty Of objective ship, Flagship and swarm of imperial aces was enough to secure the win, but Vis pushed aggressively right till the end in an attempt to down Sloanes flagship in retaliation, forcing me to make defensive minded choice to protect the lead I had rather than extend the Gap.
Good luck in the next round.
May the Draw show you favour and serve you a list with no squad protection!
Lord Preyer's lovely thematic Thrawn fleet defeats my Madine one with a 7-4, MOV 138 (587-449). We played my Targeting Beacons.
Logs here and here , though beware that they may be somewhat confusing due to the fact that we were on voice chat and there were a bunch of little errors and things that weren't recorded in the Vassal chat. The logs are also missing the very end when I got disconnected and forgot to start a new one, and a short bit between the two parts where Chimaera's squad activation took out my Star Cruiser.
Overall, a very exciting match and a real bloodbath with only the two flagships (plus squads) left at the end. I'm usually much more of a small ship person, but man, this format is a lot of fun! Thanks again to @Lord Preyer for the great game!
Cninja vs. ItzSteve ends in a 764-246 (518 MOV) to me. (9-2)
I had initiative and chose itzSteve's Cap the VIP. I was conceding the token, but ItzSteve misplaced it and left his 2 lambdas exposed. I quickly gambled in the top of the 2nd round and killed them both, leaving the token in a bad place, and him with only Jendon to activate Relay.
That said, two Vader Cymoons breathing down my neck was NOT easy, they got my quasar and interdictor easily. Somehow, my Pryce Avenger lived through the barrage, after ItzSteve's defenders kept rolling Accuracies against it.
In the end, between scraping away at his squads, and defense tokens, my three Destroyers were able to come out on top. A great game and a fine opponent! I wish you all the best of luck with those Cymoons in the next rounds!

Alright, for better or for worse I just got around to reading that you're essentially asking me to make a judgment call. For what it's worth, I believe you are correct that the game is still very close in this state, between an unhappy ISD off on the right and a slugging match on the left I don't know who I'd lay wagers. However, that is unfortunately not something I believe I can honestly include. I am going to stick with the FFG rules regarding concession, and since score is sub-280 (our version of 140) here, I'm awarding you the equivalent win @Ardaedhel .
Round 2 pairings have been posted. This will also serve as another reminder that all battle reports, regardless of where else posted, be minimally posted here. Thanks a lot.

Nah, I was just not sure what the concession rules were. I agree that it should be the equivalent of the regular concession, translated into the MTM scoring system.

Concession is that the conceder gets 0 tourney points, and winner either gets 140 or their score, whichever is higher (you had 254 before the crippled ISD because Precision Strike rules, so sub-280) and the appropriate tournament points for that score.

Vil’s well flown and deadly dangerous Mon Cal extravaganza created fork after fork. Were it not for the foresight of the Grand Admiral (he shines at larger points!) an Imperial tabling would have occurred. As it was, the two flagships were the sole survivors of the “glorious mess” that our clash produced.
Thanks to @Villakarvarousku for a very good game and for being a very patient player given my interruptions and rescheduling!
@Realadmiralsdoitinspace and I finished our game late last night/early this morning. I won by 17 points, 558-541, so a 6-5 my way. He chose my DT.
It was a rather grueling affair, though on account of that also very fun. I kept forgetting Thrawn and STM!, sadly, which led to me not repairing a total of 6 shields and a hull point. That hull point may have saved me, since he only killed my last ISD with exactly the damage needed. Had it survived, I may have tabled him. Oh well.
Since he out-deployed me, I deployed my ISDs in a line facing forward, all at speed 2. They extended from almost the left edge of the deployment zone to just past the center. He deployed his squads and the 2 AFs in the center, and all three of his large ships in the right corner. On turn 1 he got 2 tokens, I got 3. The 6th was off in the left corner, and was never gotten. As my ships were offset by his, I jumped all but the rightmost up to speed 3 and zipped toward the action. This resulted in the ISD-I, which had deployed on the far left, to never see any action. It didn't fire a shot the entire game.
Over turns 2 and 3 I engaged his AFs (killing one each turn), the first of which had the misfortune of wandering into 3 front arcs. I still had to ram it to ensure the kill though. On turn 3 I also lost an ISD, and turn 4 saw the death of the second, though not before both Libs died. Then my middle ISD spent 3 turns chasing the HMC80, which was on 3 health due to landing on asteroids and which had both Power Failure cards (obtained on turns 1 and 2 after it landed on an asteroid, then rammed a Lib and landed on it again). Sadly, with the squads pecking at me and the 80 staying just out of blue range, I was unable to kill it before I died. This was the scenario where that one hull mattered, I think. He was at the board edge, so had to slow down to at least 1 to avoid flying off the board. Which means he would have been in medium range. I only needed 6 damage and an accuracy (I don't think he had burned the brace by then, though he may have), and he got exactly the damage necessary to kill me. One more hull would have left me alive long enough to fire at him and ram.
Here's the log .
Edited by GhostofNobodyInParticularSecond @GhostofNobodyInParticular 's sentiments... was definitely a fun, if taxing, game. From my pov, think I squandered my activation advantage - and when Home One picked up consecutive Power Failure cards from an asteroid (oooh - one repair point from a dial, what fun!) I thought it'd be over quick. But a chunky rogue swarm (thanks Hera) let me stay in it by plinking away after Ghosts' 2 guantlet fighter swarm was taken care of. The H1 QTC combo (my old stand-by) worked well despite all of ghosts' ISDs having ECM, while Xi7s and Intel Officer did their usual nastiness to pickle-led fleets.
That's two MTM defeats in a row for me but both very close... think we're seeing that's the nature of the 800-point beast.
@Undeadguy vs @jp82729 round 2 match ends in a 800 -425 (8-3) win for me. Great game with a lot of dice flying both ways.
Unfortunately, I didn't split the log file, so the size was too large for Vassal to save. But here was the final board state:
We played my blockade run and basically lined up across from each other in firing lines. Engagement happened on turn 3. All four of my Vics unloaded their disposable capacitors on two ISDs and were able to take one down and severely cripple a second. Turn 4 had his squads ravage my flagship, wiping it out while I took out another ISD. Turn 5 we traded one more ISD for a Vic, and then his flagship was picked off by some rear Vic shots and the Quasar. 40 ponts were scored for my 2 destroyed ships while nobody made it into the end zone.
Villakarvarousku vs. @Visovics goes to me with a 475-334 (141 MOV) 7-4. We played Vis's Advanced Gunnery. I did start a log, but got disconnected early on and failed to start a new one, so there's not much to see. Sorry about that! Here's a screenshot of the deployment though:
Both of our flag and objective ships (Battle Cruiser & Star Cruiser and Cymoon & Kuat, respectively) engaged each other on the left side, while everyone else had their own brawl on the right/middle. The squad fight happened mainly around the station apart from Boba, a Gauntlet and (I think?) Gamma who ran off to harass my other ships on the right side. My flagship and Vis's Kuat went down on the left – The BC might have had a chance to escape, but I didn't trust my squads to finish off the Advanced Gunnery Kuat so I ET-rammed it and stayed in place to be blown up shortly after.
Meanwhile on the other side, all five ships took some damage but only the ISD-I and one of my Ordnance Cruisers were destroyed. Vis's squads gunned Shara down early and killed Han later, but the rest of my little rogueball managed to grit-jump on and around the station to heal and take out IG-88, Jonus, Rhymer and Bossk while doing so. We called it at the end of round 4 when it was clear nothing else was going to die.
Thanks to Vis for the great match! It wasn't a huge murderball of death like my first game, but nonetheless a really tense match with plenty of both explosions as well as narrow escapes on both sides. Good fun.
Greenie vs Podracer ends with a 10-1 win to me (836 to 21).
He was 1st player and picked my Contested Outpost.
In the end I killed everything except the Sloane flagship. He got Vader (squadron). I also camped the station all game.
Report to follow.

This was an incredibly tense match, and if Vil wasn't so good at dodging arcs and maneuvering me into double arcs this could have gone very badly for either one of us It was a truly great match!
