Runewars Versus: Nobles and Demons

By Parakitor, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Not sure if you mean the three wounds on that Golem or Hawthorne actually rolling an effin symbol. :D

Cool. Anything is nice to get.

I see the problem with that picture! The Rune Golem is about to line up a flank charge. Rune Golems don’t pull off flank charges.

This line gave me pause as I considered the current concerns about faction balance. And she didn't even use the Berserkers the entire game! I don't play enough to comment on balance, but I do have concerns. We've been saying that people just need to get used to the Uthuk Y'llan because they are the newest, but here we have brand new players and the Uthuk are still coming out on top.

Granted, someone had to go 2-0. Assuming complete balance, that's still a 25% chance it could have been any army as the victor today.

I think plenty of people are justifiably concerned with early results. I also think we really need to wait to see results from Regionals and major cons. Store champs still involve a lot of people just havng fun. Regionals tend to see a lot more and a lot better prepared players bringing their A-game. If Uthuk still dominate, then I’ll really start to worry. As it is, I’m trying to help the local guys figure out how to fight Uthuk.

Im one of the Uthuk store champ winners. I crushed it with a final tourney score of 30. I also know two of my wins were against people who have little experience. The third was against a guy who normally plays me to a 6-5 one way or the other, but just had a dumb moment with his deployment. A little trick to prevent his Maegan from melting my army (as he has done a lot of times) and that was enough to turn that game.

If I played our other more experienced player who didn’t make it. I could have easily finished with 20-21 points instead of 30. So I don’t put as much weight in my own win.

I got 8th or 9th place in mine with Uthuk, but that's because I forgot to add 10 points from the ransacked manor in game 2. That would have tipped me over from barely losing to barely winning. No idea how game 3 would have gone. Regardless, I certainly didn't kill it with Uthuk that day, but again, I don't get to play (or paint) nearly as much as I would like. Also, Bloodfire Witch and Fire Runes failed me. Apparently that's not the Uthuk Y'llan's best archetype. :P

Even if the Uthuk are over-strong right now, I'm hoping that the boost in mobility that the next expansions for Waiqar and Daqan offer, and the options that Latari's melee infantry will finally provide (high threat dispatch runners with a bit of staying power, for instance, or some of the melee champion shenanigans that just don't fit with archers) will help tame the Uthuk dominance. I'm not positive (and I've yet to play against Uthuk in my small meta -- the committed Uthuk player in our group is still stuck dumping his money and time into home renovations at the moment), but I'm hoping that we'll see some flank charges putting the fear of god into those Threshers and Reapers. Not to mention, it seems pretty apparent that MSU with good deployment seems better prepared to take down Uthuk than death stars; Wraiths and Scouts both look like they'll be enhancing the MSU options for their respective armies.

The other point to consider is that in the Store Championship reports I've seen, countering Uthuk doesn't seem to have been explicitly shaping the meta. I suspect we'll see changes there come the next round of competitive events.
