Are stormtroopers worth the points?

Stormtroopers are priced extra because they have access to the best heavy weapons, I reckon.

They are far more likely to survive being hit having a 3/6 rather than a 1/6 chance. I think that may be worth something.

However, the cost of the base troops shouldn't be altered as to account for their flexibility, the upgrade cards should have that cost built into them.

I don't buy into the stormtroopers are priced based on weapons they can bring. The weapons have their own price which can account for their own goodness so no need to tax the troopers who may not even take a heavy weapon. Its counter intuitive and over complicates the design process when you start factoring in 'what ifs'

I stand by my better defence was rated higher argument like @Amanal

I suspect the HH12 and ion weapons are priced high to account for the oh you just hit my big walker and now its half dead or lost its actions. Ion may look a little naf until your 200 point walker can't move or shoot in a critical turn and then it seems like the best weapon ever invented

The weapons argument also falls apart when you take into account the next set of Corps units. Snowtroopers at 40 and Fleet Troopers at 44. As with other games there is probably a formula that FFG is using for determining points based on wounds, movement value, default weapons, and morale value. The Specialists points values are fairly high I believe because they include the price of an additional stock trooper.

Looking at the release we have so far it is also not that far fetched to think additional trooper models with a wider variety of heavy weapons couldn't be released individually with a small assortment of upgrade cards.

I mean, Stormies are +1 point per mini, which is about as low a price increase as you can get for better defense die. Their offensive surge also really changes the tone of all their dice.

Also Rebels are probably being quite overcharged for the MPL Ion. Compare the price between it and the DLT Stormtrooper. Is Ion 1 really worth 8 points and a reload restriction?

For the opportunity to cost an AT-ST an action? Absolutely.

Rebels are 2 in 6. They have block surge.

We'll have to see how they go. I wouldn't buy Fleeters on their current merits, but with a good heavy weapon I might...

The MPL Barrage should be pretty good, assuming it's dice and ranges are like the MPL Ion. Fleet Troopers have both offensive and defensive surge (Hrm, it's almost like FFG has a plan that any unit which starts with a white die needs a surge), it has Blast (so no cover - this will eat Speeder Bikes pretty good), Impact 2 and probably 2 red dice. So you have a like a 1 in 8 chance of a whiff and if it is just 2 dice it'll definitely get impact just on it's own. I don't know if that'll be good enough for say an AT-ST or Snowspeeder, but with both Blast and Impact it'll be heck on Support vehicles. If you're camped in a good spot you might even be good to reload.

Scattergun just makes fleet troopers better at what they already do, you end up with some very accurate dice up close which eat into the enemy's defense.
