My tournament season has ended and its time to get wierd.

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing

Regionals in my area is as far as I go, now it' just the bi weekly store kit stuff.

I' ready to put the cutting edge of performance on the shelf for a bit.

So...let' get weird.

Started my first post season casual night with dengar and thweek. Fun and not awful but I almost immediately regretted using thweek instead of guru. And if ever there was a non kylo ship that wanted advanced sensors it' these funky barrel roll starvipers.

Beyond that ,I don' have a real sense of direction list wise and it feels great.

So there' this thread here , anyone else have some " not from the top list on meta wing ' they are having fun with?

Funny you should mention it, I just started a thread for a list that surprised me with its punchiness. Basically it's Quinn Jast & Kimo-Dalan on Deadeye Harpoon duty, supported by Linked Battery Sunny Bounder and a single TLT Thug. They end up being a 4-ship list that doesn't feel (to me, anyway) like you're missing out on tools to get the job done.

Edit: I'm debating going up from Quinn to Genesis Red because I have the point free, this list is inevitably going to get out-PSed anyway, and it would solve some movement awkwardness between Quinn and Dalan. OTOH, Quinn's super-reload is pretty boss.

3 Nu squadron Gunboats with Ion cannons, Ion Pulse Missiles and Guidance Chimps followed by a PS2 TLT/LWF Aggressor.

It is hilarious Ionizing a large based ship with the missiles followed by the hounding of Gunboats just hammering into it with the cannons and the TLT plinking away.

Certainly not top tier, but it's fun to shove Rey off the board or onto a rock.

EDIT: Also swapping the Missiles for proton torpedoes and Thread Tracers while dropping the Aggressor to Synced Turret has actually delivered some firepower that I didn't expect. Tracers with a focus + GC will probably hit something.

I did something similar on Vassal the other day, except mine was 4 gunboats.

Ionboats (100)

Nu Squadron Veteran (26) - Alpha-class Star Wing
Extra Munitions (2), Ion Pulse Missiles (3), OS-1 Arsenal Loadout (2), Guidance Chips (0), XX-23 S-Thread Tracers (1)

Nu Squadron Veteran (26) - Alpha-class Star Wing
Extra Munitions (2), Ion Pulse Missiles (3), OS-1 Arsenal Loadout (2), Guidance Chips (0), XX-23 S-Thread Tracers (1)

Nu Squadron Veteran (23) - Alpha-class Star Wing
Ion Pulse Missiles (3), XG-1 Assault Configuration (1), Long-Range Scanners (0), Tractor Beam (1)

Nu Squadron Veteran (25) - Alpha-class Star Wing
Ion Pulse Missiles (3), XG-1 Assault Configuration (1), Guidance Chips (0), Flechette Cannon (2), Tractor Beam (1)

the idea was to try to set up a perpetual round of gunboats firing ion pulse missiles and then reloading them, with some tractor beams and the Flechette cannon thrown in to make life even more miserable for the ionized enemy ships.

It sounded fun on paper, but in practice it made for a miserable game for my opponents, which in turn made it less fun for me. I might try it again sometime... but probably not.

Now this Scum jank list was a blast to fly. I used it in two games the other day, won one and lost one.

4x Scum (100)

•Sunny Bounder (20) - M3-A "Scyk" Interceptor
"Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (2), Pulsed Ray Shield (2), Linked Battery (2)

•Thweek (27) - StarViper
StarViper Mk.II (-3), Pulsed Ray Shield (2)

•Unkar Plutt (21) - Quadjumper
•Cikatro Vizago (0), •Cloaking Device (2), Spacetug Tractor Array (2)

•Fenn Rau (32) - Protectorate Starfighter
Fearlessness (1), Concord Dawn Protector (1), Autothrusters (2)

Thweek and Sunny Bounder are almost becoming must-includes in all my Scum lists, because they’re both so much fun! :D

I also have a list with the Ghost and Miranda, both of them without TLT, that I want to try out to see just how competitive these ships can be when they don’t have their precious TLT.

I’ve really been excited to try this jank train after reading the Jostero/Dace thread.

Jank Bonearm (100)

•Dace Bonearm (28) - HWK-290
Draw Their Fire (1), •Cikatro Vizago (0), •Cloaking Device (2), Pulsed Ray Shield (2)

•Captain Jostero (27) - Kihraxz
Fearlessness (0), XX-23 S-Thread Tracers (0), Ion Dischargers (1), Vaksai (0), Pulsed Ray Shield (1), Vectored Thrusters (1), Munitions Failsafe (0)

•Unkar Plutt (23) - Quadjumper
•Ketsu Onyo (1), Pattern Analyzer (2), Inertial Dampeners (1), Spacetug Tractor Array (2)

Jakku Gunrunner (22) - Quadjumper
Intelligence Agent (1), Ion Bombs (2), EMP Device (2), Spacetug Tractor Array (2)

Obviously Vizago-ing the cloaking device in to an Ion Discharger on Dace. Then he just putts around trying do damage with his pilot ability, absorbing crits, and generally being annoying.

How far down the barrel do you want to reach, if you're no longer shooting for tier 0-1 lists?

Tier 2 explodes with possibilities like TIE/D defenders and Starvipers.

Tier 3 brings out all the other good pilots from strong ships, and opens the door to wacky jank like firesprays, generic falcons and the like.

Tier 4 brings you TIE punisher swarms lead by bomblet generator Deathrain.

Tier 5 brings you the game you thought you were buying - X-Wings Vs TIE Fighters...

My personal favourite at the moment is Asajj, Thweek and Viktor Hel all run light. It's an awful lot of fun.

5x Omega Squadron Pilots with crackshot and advanced optics is really fun !

I use this list to casual night game with friends :

“Duchess” (26)
TIE Striker (23), Veteran Instincts (1), Adaptive Ailerons (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

The Inquisitor (34)
TIE Advanced Prototype (25), Push the Limit (3), Proton Rockets (3), TIE/v1 (1), Autothrusters (2)

“Omega Leader” (26)
TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2)

“Wampa” (14)

Possibility to remplace Inquisitor with Backdraft.

It's good to take a break after store/regional and bring funky list ! :)

I was trying to learn star vipers, but obviously I am really too bad for this and it is still a long way to go for me.

So I decided to just fly one star viper in a list and ended up with this. I had fun.

Guri (30)
Push the Limit (3)
Fire-Control System (2)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)
Virago (1)

Manaroo (27)
Attanni Mindlink (1)
Recon Specialist (3)
Ion Projector (2)

Fenn Rau (28)
Attanni Mindlink (1)
Autothrusters (2)
Concord Dawn Protector (1)

Ugh, this. I finally set up a perfect Rhymer SnapTician, got right behind his ship and knew I could keep it up for several rounds, guaranteeing 2 stress per turn no matter where he went...

And it felt terrible. I veered off and went after another target with that overcosted flying brick saying "no, I'm not pulling punches. Your guy has to do so many greens now to get back in the fight, he isnt my targeting priority."

I'm thinking SIlencer Kylo, Whisper, and a big bid.

Anything involving Valen Rudor with prockets and Intensity is going to be a good time

That is cool. I actually developed a similar list and look forward to flying it. I’ve been having fun with Triple ‘Vipers for the time being and am trying to avoid my normal ADHD list jumping. I actually took the ‘Vipers to the Seattle Regional, so maybe I don’t have the same divisions between competion & fun as some do. ?

Pretty sure you got Tier 4 and Tier 5 switched. X-Wings and TIE fighters aren’t that bad, they just suffer against most Tier 1 and 2 stuff.

BTL-A4 Y-Wings with ICT and FAA. In general, anything with FAA. Or use Bodhi and a Prototype Pilot to set up an alpha strike. Or both!
