Fortify My Spacefield!!

By Darth Meanie, in X-Wing

I agree, we need terrain.

I would love some official XWM terrain packs. I’ve already scoured the web for just about every third party terrain piece I can find. I’ve even commissioned a GR-75 wreck since I missed the whole Space Rocks boat.

I'm tempted more and more as time goes on to smash up some of my lesser-used ships to convert into 3-D debris.

Sounds like the poor E-wing is headed to the space graveyard

It works fine until you have to overlap something.

But the cool/fun factor is definitely up there.

Even that's fine. All you need is a cardboard template to match, then remove the 3D model if there's an overlap.

For example, you use one of the regular asteroid tokens, put a 3D asteroid on it, then if it's overlapped, remove the model, complete the move and replace the 3D asteroid when the ship moves away again.

See if you can get ahold of some of the old WotC Star Wars starship miniatures game models. Different scale(s) than x-wing, but since your chopping them up is doesn’t really matter. That’s what I did and it works great.

Make stuff; mount it on metal washers; stick them atop the SW standard cardboard terrain blobs.

COOL AND OFFICIAL!

Somebody didn't pay their ransom.

Those do look really cool; I do think that the current assortment of rocks and debris could be livened up in some way.

Granted, in casual or scenario play you can play with HotAC elements or whatever you want to houserule, but I would like to see some sanctioned new forms of debris that behave differently than rocks/debris: Ion clouds, gas clouds, etc... though I imagine it would be a devil to manage new obstacle rules that don't break some pilots/upgrades.

I think the only builds that become stronger with increased obstacle variety are Advanced Sensors double-reposition ships (so, just Kylo), and Dash. Neither of them are meta monsters, so what could go wrong [tm]?

You can get just the ships on eBay pretty cheap.

Having 3d terrain would be interesting, especially if we got battlefields that took place in environs that are other than asteroid or debris fields.

Purrgil/Exogorth 2-pack!

Let’s try this...

The asteroids a from cheap decorative volcanic rocks. The debris are broken non-SW model bits mixed with epoxy putty casts of XWMs. The washers are decorated to look right while sitting on top of the regular cardboard. When a ship flies over, just move the stands over.

i had the same thought but there are some cool work arounds

you use a flat silhouette template with the debris model over it for example. anyway it works allright
