1st Demos game!

By Dicetales, in Star Wars: Legion

local shop got demo copy..but staff not there to teach me.. said they run proper demo next week and left me with box and minis they had assembled.. lucky another interested member of the (re)public arrived and we tried to hack it out with a quick skim of the rules and i had lightly watched youtube play thoughs as well ..

played 3x3 as book states

(does the game come with white and black rule book ? i only had black to work off)

I played imperial both games..

1st game as the book no special guns just a fight out.. darth seem to tank this for me.. no suppression and panic ( every thing seemed in range quickly, possible wrong cohesion stick.. but then Darth stared to eat up enemy units )

2nd game i think we played wrong as our trooper had 2 heavy weapons toops i think the should have only had one.. .. with all the special weapons darth was quickly taken out .. (2 big white dice mini guns in 1 unit = 12 dice = 5 crits in one roll..this was wrong..might be more surviveable as 6 white dice ) probably got suppression wrong to in this game.

fun and light .. maybe to light.. i do come from an "infinity the game" background.. but it will be nice to have lighter dice chucker in the collection with a wider player pool...which i hope sw will provide

felt way to small on 3x3 even with just 1 core.. felt like everything was in range most of the time..

I wish it was runewars so i could have my light fantasy game..didnt like the templates or dials or trays in that .. but the SW range ruler and bendy templates are cool.. and simple cohesion nice and quick

feels cheeky that there are too few dice in the 1 core..

also like the activation system and the card initiative system

Likes:

bendy templates and rulers

Card initiative

light rules

just over 1 hour if rules known by both sides?

dislikes:

3x3 to small to be tactical

lack of dice

to light?

only 2 armys compared to Warhammer and infinity and runewars .. but its a game of dark and light and guess

other:

need more goes to test tactical options, play with out mistakes which will not take long..

changes:

maybe colour code the movement templates small medium and long. ( think we used wrong cohesion template in one game )

didnt under stand the objective picker on 1st few reads.. odd diagram..

Image uses Turrets as speeder bikes as they where no assembled yet.. this it pic where i think we got our units wrong,.. 500 pts 2 big guns in each trooper unit

oh my god my spelling! and grammer! so so sorry probably still missed stuff

I guess 3x3 being too small would be better with some more blocking terrain....and the main game is played on bigger.

possibly say knock 1 range off all range things.. minimum 1..

I think it would work a lot better just with some more terrain features that block line of sight, buildings etc...would make it more tactical than just shooting.

Or just play on a 3 x 6, even at lower points. Kind of like the 2nd half of a game where heaps of units have already been killed off!

I think Vader would be OP on a smaller map, as his weakness is his lack of mobility. At the same time the speeder bikes advantage is their ability to zip around a 3 x 6.

starter game say 3x3 so observation was this is tiny... some people who have only glanced the rules might think this is cool home play standard .. i know i can not set up 3x6 at home with out some effort

Same, so I invested in a 3 x 6 mat that I can roll out onto the dining table and roll up and store in the cupboard after game.

There are a few companies about to select from, mine is a FAT Mat Grassy Plains.

you have bigger tables ! my home is table is 2.4ft x 3.4ft my dinning table for 4 people , playing at hobby shop is fine. the image is hobby shop but at the recommend book size for the demo core 3x3 size .. you can see we could go larger and add blocking terrain in the image.. not had time to test larger yet .. even floor space@ home for 3x6 is hard with out existing furniture .. im fine with this playing at store and clubs for space.. infinity normaly plays 4x4 comes with a demo mat 1/2 the size but it played out well .. I just dont think the SW:L demo 3x3 works to sell the game after admitidly 2 gos other then to graps the activation and dice throwing aspects

My table is 6ft long, however only 2ft wide, so I have 3 of these that I place over the top of the table (with a towel so the table won't scratch;

plywood is good, but imo, the best type of wood is actually called Hardboard. Its a thin panel-type of wood that has a soft underside with a generally vinyl-painted top. Very light, slight slight flex that should not matter much when on a table thats not tiny, and smooth so theres not a lot of splinters. I have 2x 3x3's that I use for both X-wing and armada and I highly recommend it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardboard

MDF = Medium Density Fibre board

HDF is also good
