Will they give us terrain guidelines for OP?

By bageldrone, in Star Wars: Legion

I'm wondering if FFg is going to give us a set of guidlines for terrain in the size, shape and amount of terrain for tournaments.

Im concerned that if i pitch up to a tournament at my FLGS theyre just going to slap a bunch of random terrain with no consistency between tables.

I mean it could go the other way and OP events are just barricades and objective tokens until FFG release more terrain.

My idea would be FFG would say "each table must contain X amount of terrain pieces" then specify the size and shape of terrain e.g buildings are 6x6inches to 12x12inches and 6inches tall.

that way you can build terrain for tournaments with those dimensions and still incorporate some style and creativity into your terrain.

what do you guys think?

Yes.

Wargames of this sort are pretty Laissez-Faire with terrain. At most you might see guidelines for multi-story platforms (Like GW's ruins), but beyond making sure everybody fits beneath the previous floor, even that shouldn't be a big deal.

As far as terrain quantity, the rule of thumb for most games like this (And the suggestion from the rules reference) is that you should have enough terrain to cover a quarter of the board before you spread it out. A mix of terrain types (light cover, heavy cover, and line of sight blocking) is generally best, but the precise ratios come down to taste.

In my experience terrain at an event is often hard to come by any limitations on it may just make it harder to come by.

Depends on the venue, but yeah some do have issues with that. Luckily Legion at least comes with barricades for each player in the core set, and I think the Rules Reference has something about alternating terrain deployment so they might use that? Could be mistaken as I don't have an easy way of checking right now.

RRG has some basic guidelines for competition placement of terrain. It’s on page 9.

most games this scale limit a piece of terrain to 12" square. Some of my terrain will be larger, but I'm not doing it for OP. Terrain density is also a consideration. I want part of my board to be a large tree forest, but still have some open terrain on the board.
