FFG taking digs at it's own products?

By flightmaster101, in Runewars Miniatures Game

New legion article up about the 3D terrain available. It kinda hit me a bit when I read this:

"Rather than a flat piece of punchboard, the objective miniatures included in the Priority Supplies Battlefield Expansion spring off of the battlefield, providing a clearly visible and thematic place for you to direct your army. "

So what the heck FFG? Taking digs at your own licensed product?

Did this rub anyone else the wrong way?

I mean, they really could have worded this better, but I'm sure they're just trying to cater to people who dislike the 2d cardboard-token terrain that FFG does in all their other minis games. I know lots of people (especially the warhammer crowd) find that less immersive and so pointing out similarities might be beneficial to Legion.

I'll assume that 3D terrain is coming for Runewars.

Hurray!

Right now I'm hoping something is coming for Runewars. We haven't had a substantive article since Oct 9th. The Q4 units are still at the printer since 8/29. Honestly I want FFG to come out and say either: 'this game is going to be a slow burn but we're in for the long haul, we just need to satisfy the mouse and get legion out" or "This game has been completed and thank you for your past purchases."

I am also weary that there no Q1 kit (at least that I've seen, if anyone has seen one I would love a link).

I am of the impression (rumors around the FFG Event Center) that Runewars was simply put on hold for this Legion push. That it will be resuming. They're not currently a big enough company to parallelize both production lines. Obviously the Star Wars line has a bigger audience potential, so that got the frontrunning status. Given that they put time into these battle report articles, I have to imagine they haven't scrapped it yet. We'll see though. It is a bit dire with the supplies at FLGS -- no one is really selling / stocking them. So they're going to have to revitalize it to keep it going. Unless they're content with a really small market cap on this one?

What's the audience size comparison of Age of Sigmar vs W40k? It's a tiny fraction right?

I like this.

Yup, the mouse has muscles and will use them.

This is my main issue. To get new players I have to convince people the game isnt dead. Tough to do without a Q1 kit and no new product hitting the shelves.

I hadn't read the Legion article, because I'm not interested. But that is surprising shot taken.

I am in favour of 3D terrain for Runewars, totally cool, but I will be somewhat price sensitivite too

I had a good chuckle about it. Sometimes a droid is just a droid and it's not the one you're looking for.

Around here at least AoS basically does not exist. If you are playing a game set in the Mortal Realms you are playing Shadespire. 40k on the other hand has a small community. The players who came back after the latest edition (8th?) are all gone though, and our local GW is pretty much empty even at the weekend. You might get one table of people playing 40k, but the AoS minis have a layer of dust over them and have not moved since I started going in there again last year.

There is a buzz around Legion amoung current and former 40k players, and the X-Wing, Armada and Rune Wars communities are growing.

The game uses objective markers. This new pack is full of 3D objective markers. It was comparing itself to a boring game with only the core set cardboard objective markers. Had nothing to do with Runewars.

I am pretty sure most FFG games have yet to get the Q1 kits. I know Armada hasn't had them yet.

Can confirm, all Q1 kits for all games have been delayed. They're not playing favorites here. We were not told anything about the kits until January 8 (I got 4 emails from our rep that day), and at that time, all Q1 kits were listed as "Expected Arrival: March 2018" They also rephrased it slightly, saying "season 1" and not "Q1" so I guess they're going back to seasonal kits and this one is going to be Spring. :P Season 2 was announced for June, season 3 for September, season 4 for December. So until those months come, the kits are not "late" based on what they said in January.

This definitely put our OP in a bind; we had been ordering 3 months worth of kit (for all our regular leagues, monthly tournaments, etc) consistently, but the Q4 kits arrived in October. So 3 months of kits had to last 6 months. They haven't, of course, so we've been using a lot of leftover old prizes and/or store credit to make up the difference.

That is comforting.

Edit: (Ok, it was pointed out to me this sounds sarcastic. It is not and I'm totally sorry if it does because the fact that no games have Q1 kits makes me feel that RW isn't left behind.)

i am just laughing about those who still hope RW will continue...... they see all new games and expansion here every day, but nothing for RW since half a year or longer. at the Printer, pre order now - they believe complete braindamaged Zombies will waste money for non and never existing products. i call this criminal. thats what it is. victims are vendors and customers who lost money and enthusiasm for games at all. tell Trump about his american industry !

What are you getting out of these comments?

Whatever happened to "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"?

You now that, should Runewars be cancelled, then pre-orders will be cancelled too right so how is it criminal?

If I choose to invest in any product I accept the risk that may not be everything I hope for. Any smart consumer knows this and makes a judgement every time they buy anything.

A car can break down or be unreliable. A phone can be slower than we like. Video games can be buggy. And any new board game might not take off beyond the core set and wave one.

I’ve bought a lot of Runewars at a discount as FLGS shift stock. I accept that the game might not get beyond the current release state but, for me, there is a reasonable amount of fun in there for the amount I’ve spent (three factions worth of armies).

When I bought the core set I knew how much gameplay there would be in there (enough to get a taste of the game but not the full hobby) and made my decision accordingly. I’m sorry if you thought that Runewars would last forever and regret your investment.

Anyone posting here KNOWS that Runewars might not live for long but HOPES that it does. Hoping for the best doesn’t make them idiots (nor does any “failure” in sales for Runewars make FFG idiots either)
