I thought that was weird too, but if you need to be in base contact with an objective for some reason then it needs to be on a base. The fact that we'll have loose bases and can put anything we choose on there alleviates that problem to me.

Yes I was just thinking of having some magnetized so I can take the boxes off as needed. I could even add my own personal objective marker too

If one does not like the look of the crate on a base, just use a cardboard objective token under it. It will still be pretty flush with the board yet still give you the defined area needed for the purposes of securing the objective.

"U can do crates and vaporators by yourself? Paying 10$ for materials and spending some time on youre hobby...

But... You wont have this 2 extra cards for 24.95"

You still have to paint them and probably some assembly required. Only one player needs to have those cards or people can easily proxy them. Plus not everyone has the patience/time/talent to assemble moister evaporators from bits and bobs.

The bases are likely the same size as the cardboard counters to make measuring to/from the objectives the same whether you are using the kit or the cardboard counters.

Okay the thing i am most wondering about is all of those guys who make Terrain for this game. I am thinking one of two things happen with this as well as getting cards and such.

1. You still can use any terrain even those made by yourself.

2. For tournys THIS is the ONLY terrain you can use.

Just some thoughts about it. I know the guys at my shop have made our own terrain so even if they rule #2 way we still wouldn't really follow it.

I’m all in on the terrain pack. More objectives and conditions to play means more ways to enjoy the same minis so all good!

I will pass on the barricades. Despite the fact I am only buying a single core for now. I’ve got a lot of homemade terrain done.

I thought the L2P and Rules Reference were pretty clear that any terrain is welcome. I can’t imagine they’d say “except for OP” after the fact.

true, i agree, i just worry about all the effort i put into making cool stuff for this game

Tourneys in my experience also tend to use store/club terrain so the tables are set up beforehand and so judges have answers ready as to types of cover. That's not to say that some don't have players bring terrain, that's just my own experience.

I wonder if the cards are being placed in the objective set to encourage people to buy the official ones rather than 3D print their own. Regardless, I like that they are providing us with official, easy to source options for sprinkling around obviously themed Star Wars stuff. I'm still planning on putting together some broken down probe droids from IA minis.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing C&D letters posted to explain why certain online retailers have shut their doors much like what happened with Space Rocks...

I think it is more of a way to expand game play and add another sku for people to buy. I don't see FFG being a company that makes little houses for miniature games but 3D objective token, yes. Now if they do go down that rabbit hole we may see some C&D letters going out, but until they, 3rd party terrain producers do nothing but help their game.

Houses are one thing, moisture evaporators another. The C&D for Space Rocks didn't come from FFG, it came from Disney.

As someone that is selling 3d printed terrain I see this as a blessing and a curse. On the one hand people's need for vaporators just evaporated (heh? heh?) But on the other hand this can make selling things much easier as for many reasons we can almost always beat their price.

@Tirion People that want more than the couple that are in the box will likely turn to 3D printers, but those printera who are a bit brazen or push the limits like Space Rocks did when they tried making an epic scale Nebulon frigate for X-wing might get a nasty gram from Disney.

I really like the idea a pleasant surprise for a Friday afternoon. I do think the crates look a little strange on the bases.

You can always add some basing material between the base and the crate that matches your table or army bases, that way it isn't just a crate on a plastic base.

Since we don't know how FFG is going to handle tournament play it may be up to the players to provide their own objective tokens, so you may want to pick up this expansion instead of using the generic tokens from the core set. "Fancy" objective markers are actually rather common in tabletop miniature games.

That expansion looks awesome. I've built a bunch of terrain already, but all of those pieces can easily be incorporated into any table if you paint them to match.

It may seem strange by themselves, but surrounded by troops that are also on bases of equal height it should look great and really give the impression that it's part of the action.

Never thought I'd be excited to see official crates, moisture vaporators, etc.

Oh, those are awesome and, of course, they come with cards. I am catching on to how this apparently will go. Here's some more gear and it has these new cards. Everyone on the boards had warned me ... the cost of all things minis is steep.

Now, I see how it works. I have not even picked up my pre-order items and I have additional stuff to pre-order.

I see you working FFG

The bases are too small and weird looking for objective markers (this is the size I'd use for 15mm stuff) but otherwise they look quite excellent.

Just knock over the vaporators and incorporate the ruined vaporator into some kind of terrain/barricade.

@GreatMazinkaiser These may be the size of the official objectives, will find out once someone gets their hands on these.

At 25USD for 4 vaporatos, 3 terminals and some crates its a pretty decent price.

Here in Aus I paid to get some imperial terrain ones 3D printed and these look just as good if not better quality for cheaper.

JUST TAKE MY MONEY ALREADY!!!!! ?

I can see them releasing waves of custom objective terrain packs going forward, each of which includes new cards as well.

Yeah mate unfortunately 3D printing if you don't have one here in Australia is rather dear.

Love the imperial terrain files though, have got a few items from them :)

What would you charge for them?
