MONSTERPOCALYOPSE!!!

By Forgottenlore, in X-Wing Off-Topic

May be a bit bad form to post about another companies game here, but I don't care, I'm really excited

Privateer Press is bringing back Monsterpocalypse.

http://privateerpress.com/community/privateer-insider/earth-shaking-announcement

Apparently, whatever was preventing them from talking about the game has expired and they are relaunching it.

A 2nd edition of the rules, so some changes but should still be recognizable.

Sold as a hobby game. Figures will need to be assembled and painted, but the detail will be much higher than the old figs.

Non-Collectible. Buy the stuff you actually want.

They don't mention hyper-forms, and the new standard game format is 2 monsters, so I am guessing monsters will not have an alternate form anymore.

Figures are a bit bigger than before, but a scale comparison makes it look like the old figs will be usable, though not in tournaments

This was one of my favorite game back in the day, so I am really excited about this.

Sweet Christmas!!!!

Now I am extra, extra glad I passed on Legion. Guess the movie contract finally is up.

I wonder if morphers work anymore? I would love to see them try to get Voltron back, especially with Legendary Defender.

LOL wasn't expecting this. Tought it was dead and gone. Only played it a few times tough: after the expansions and the new factions, there were just to many icons you had to memorize to make it fun.

I still got all my old models in my cabinet, they were good for prepainted minis.

I might give it a look. I'm just not into painting minis. (Otherwise I'd have several chaos armies by now)

Based on the images in the announcement video and on the monpoc site, it looks like the various monsters and units will look basically the same, just more detailed and slightly larger. Of course, for the martians, they might not be using a translucent green material like before...

OH COME ON!!!!

Between Monpoc, PacRim, and GigaRobo, I am going to be drowning in giant, city destruction mini games.

Still, I eagerly await seeing how the Martians look, as they were kind of my secondary faction.

Good time to be a kaiju. I just wich they would hurry that new Godzilla movie up a bit. Can't wait till 2019.

Not directed just at you SB, but for some reason lots of people keep seeming to miss this section on monsterpocalypse.com

Wave 1 of the new Monsterpocalypse will feature six Factions: the robot defenders of G.U.A.R.D., the cyber ninjas of the Shadow Sun Syndicate, the reptilian predators of the Terrasaurs, the sinister fiends of the Lords of Cthul, the destructive Planet Eaters, and the invaders of the Martian Menace.

Hmm Hex based grid, No more icons on the minis bases. (asuming these aren't protypes) I just might get into this thing.

Also looks like the Tritons faction is stil in the game.

Yeah, that looks like the old figures.

Curious.

Where did that pic come from? Old figs, old buildings, but mounted on clear bases, buildings on hex bases, crammed in 3 to a base, using cards, but not custom dice. Very puzzling.

The building roofs on the playmat playmat also look a lot like dropzone commander buildings.

Instead of going through random prepainted boosters like WotC D&D 4th edition they seem to be following the same trend FFG has used for their games like Imperial Assault and Rune Wars.

Pre sculpted easy to assemble unpainted models.

I already have the strategy guides and bought a Shadowsun Syndicate collection with shadow units an a hyper. I wasn't a fan of the random booster for models. (Although I did try and get into Star Wars Starship miniatures.

Hmm, Cthulhu or Tyranids???

Yeah the randomness was... unfortunate. Mind you if you knew what you were looking for and were good at weighting objects with your hands and if your LGS didn't mind you picking up boosters * you could seperate the martians/shadowsun/ elemental ninja ones (light soft plastic) from the lords of c'tul/ Planet eaters/ Mole people. (heavy solid plastic large models)

Once spent 15 mins weighing all the boosters to pick out Ulgoth.

Gerelateerde afbeelding you're a big chap aren't you?

* I just realised this is a lot of "ifs".

Not a huge fan of the components of the unit packs. And I feel bad for Cthul players, as it looks like their unit packs are more expensive than the others. I am leaning toward the path of limited purchases, so that is okay. Interested to see what the new monsters will be when they stop trying to establish the factions.

From what they have said, it sounds like the original 6 factions are going to get the attention for the first year, then the will move on to their stuff.

I am hopeful that will see most of the stuff that originally came out in the first block rereleased and then they can focus on finishing the second 6 factions and/or create new stuff.

I imagine that we will get 4 month blocks of 3 months with new monsters/units and one month of buildings.

Yeah, that has been my assumption as well. Which theoretically means 3 monsters and, maybe, 12 units per faction over the course of the year. When you consider that the original game only had 5 monsters per faction, and 1 of those was a combiner that probably won’t make the transition, that’s pretty good.

Not going to have nearly the same range of buildings though.

It would be about 4 monsters per faction in the first year.

How’d you figure?

4 month blocks, each with 1 monster per faction, 3 times a year equals 3 monsters per faction.

Bad at math.

Picked up my Destroyer starter. Now, to find someone to help me assemble stuff. That, I think, is the part that worries me the most.

And January releases:

Looks like we are going to get installations before more units, in the next waves. Though it is nice that they are mixing up when the factions are released. Though, looking at my Gorghadra, I am terrified of getting Martians.
