Of Dreadnoughts and Interdictors

By Thalomen, in Star Wars: Armada

Does anyone recall off hand how long it was between the time the Interdictor showed up in Star Wars Rebels and the time it was announced for Armada?

Seems to me it was pretty quick, which makes me wonder if Wave 8 is announced within the next month or two if the Dreadnought could be in it. Thoughts?

The episode aired on the 25 of November 2015 and then it was announced as wave 4 on the 20th of May 2016

Thanks.

Considering the time needed for model design and play testing, I would think the Interdictor was in R&D for the game before it aired on Rebels.

Could be that the Dreadnought (or whatever its called in the new canon) could be in development right now.

The artist renders for it were created in 2016, so it’s very possible they could be part of Wave 8

Both ships are from the EU so they could have made some playtesting with them even before the models became available. So they may be well inder development.

First appearance of the Interdictor in 'Rebels' was the episode 'Stealth Strike'. You can check out the concept art gallery for that one, which tells us...

...2014 for when the Interdictor model was done for Rebels (10-23-2014). Obviously, as above, announced for Armada in May 2016.

Dreadnought from the episode 'A Fools Hope'...

Design in 10-28-2016. Based on that, sure, it's not unrealistic to expect a Dreadnought for Armada to be announced in May 2018.

Except it's not a Dreadnought. It's an imperial support vessel. :)

It's a good opportunity for a new flotilla or some other kind of support role.

An imperial large flotilla, made up of 2 Imperial support vessels. comes with 2 or 3 fleet support upgrade slots & a fleet command slot... same firepower as a raider but cheeper than a VSD

Imperial Support Vessel is to Dreadnaught, as Imperial Light Cruiser is to Arquitens :)

Wouldn't read too much into the name. Notice the name on the other art is 'Imperial Star Destroyer Interdictor' so...

We don’t know that yet. They could decide to call it the Katana Class. They could decide to make it the new Carrack Class.

Lets face it, Dreadnought Class can be more than a little confusing. I hope they do change the name. Until then ISV works fine.

Which is fairly close to "Imperial Interdictor Star Destroyer" which is what it's normally called.

I think we've gotten to the point that shows that Disney is more than willing to recycle old designs and stick whatever fluff they like around it. I don't mind it since it gives me hope we can see any of the old EU stuff.

Getting back to the lag between artist render creation to armada announcement. Does anyone have on hand the Chiamera render? I have a terrible time finding those renders.

Iron Squadron aired Nov. 16, 2016. Wave VII was announced August 25, 2017. So that's an 8 month lead time.

Stealth Strike air Nov. 2015 with the Armada announcement in May. That's a four month lag.

Im not sure what, if anything that will mean in terms of the ersatz Dreadnought, but it is interesting.

Spelling correction.

For an even longer lag-time (Hammerheads) - A Princess on Lothal was aired Jan 20 2016, and Wave VI was announced March 14 2017.

FFG could've been given the heads up that they would feature prominently in Rogue One and decided to stall release for RO content.

Plausible - though I think the FFG ones are modelled on the Rebels ones rather than the Rogue One ones - lacking the extra turrets.

Apparently the Rogue One ones ARE the Rebels ones........ The actual ships... They just Refit them in the intervening year or so...

Ehhhh...?no?According to StarWars.com, it's just the "Imperial Interdictor". Not a 'Star Destroyer' - and they were certainly only ever called cruisers or Interdictors in the show...

The Databank often has errors. It's also slow to update after the newcanon changes things.

The book Star Wars Absolutely Everything You Need To Know: Updated & Expanded, calls it the Interdictor-class Star Destroyer:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Interdictor-class_Star_Destroyer/Canon

Heir to the Jedi, before that, etablished that Immobilizer-class cruisers had had production discontinued, in favour of "Star Destroyers with gravity well projectors" - based on the size of the Rebels ships, it made sense that they were small Star Destroyers, rather than big cruisers, which is probably why the book chose that description for them.
