Armada as Chess - Who is Who?!

By TheCallum, in Star Wars: Armada

Rebels is one side, Imperials are the other.

One title, or Officer, or Commander, or Squadron per piece- Who is Who?!

Obviously Leah in any form = Queen

Dibs on Mothma for white queen.

I disagree good sir. Bishop for her!!

Tie Fighter is the obvious Imperial pawn, right?

Is the Phantom the Knight?

Imperial queen, thrawn? Can do pretty much whatever he wants, right?

Flotillas are pawns, after all they're just activation padding.

As there are only 16 pieces on each side, can we agree on what will NOT make the chess board?

I'll start:

YV-666s

Konstantine

Sensor Teams.

Squids are rooks. They move so fast and in a straight line.

I hear sensor teams are really good

someone told me that

I can’t remember who, he hasn’t posted in a while...

What's a squid?

On the imp side, I was thinking
Pawn = Gozanti - Throw away pieces that often decide the outcome of the game
Rook = Arquitens - Straight line movement only
Knight = Victory - Hard to maneuver, but deadly if done right
Bishop = Raider - Fast squirrely things, but dead if boxed in
Queen = ISD - Can do everything, is the most powerful
King = Interdictor - Slow, Lumbering ship that's really hard to kill

On the Rebel side
Pawn = Rebel Transport - Throw away pieces that often decide the outcome of the game
Rook = MC30 - Fast things that pack a punch
Knight = Pelta - Doesn't do much alone, but can drastically help out everything around it
Bishop = CR-90 - Fast squirrely things, but dead if boxed in
Queen = MC75 - Beast of a ship
King = MC80H - The thing that just doesn't ever die. And if it does, you lose.

Off topic: Heh, I was just thinking which side would be white/black. And I was like "well, obviously the person who bid for player 1 is white." Which got me thinking - they could totally do something like that in Chess - people could bid time on their clock for who gets 1st player. "I bid 30secs" "Well, I bid 36, so I get to go first."

A heretic's name for a dolphin, alternatively known, by other blasphemers, as a shrimp. Formally known as the MC30c.

The appropriate nickname for an MC30.

Khyros, how come you aren't just a plain "Member?"

Hey now, if we made a Scum set... And I do like to run a Swarm of YV-666s once and again in slow moving fleets that don't want to activate squads as a screen. The dice are brutal, same as a Defender, it has one more hull than a defender, they are Heavy but also have Grit, Rogue, oh but they are slow as heck 3 less than the Defender but 1 point less. Nothing I would fly in a serious tournament but I have had fun with them on a couple occasions.

Because there was a time back in 2014 where if you had over 1000 posts, you could give yourself a custom title. Then about a month later they took it away, and you were left with whatever you had. At the time, I was super into Psycho Tycho and ptl green squads in X wing.

Perhaps the Phoenix Home Pelta as the Rebel King... Slow, vulnerable, and always barking out commands for everyone else.

DCaps VSD-2 as the Rook? Potent, ranged artillery that's sometimes awkward to move due to its value and tendency to be targeted.

On the imp side:
Pawn = VSD - maximum speed 2, flying straight forward and easily blocked
Rook = ISD - Fast and deadly in 1 direction
Knight = TIE Squadron - can "jump over" other units and couldn't be blocked
Bishop = Arquitens - small ship, slipping through gaps and dangerous to the sides
Queen = Darth Vader TIE advanced - most deadly figure of the Imps
King = Tarkin - sitting in his Death Star, waiting to be blown up

On the Rebel side
Pawn = Nebulon-B - only good if you have a row, if it's protected or protects another unit
Rook = Liberty - it's the rebels fake-ISD, isn't it?
Knight = X-wing squadron - like the TIEs above
Bishop = Mc30c - Fast and menacing to the sides
Queen = Luke Skywalker X-wing - it's a family story! Every side needs a Skywalker
King = General Dodonna - sitting in his war room at Yavin IV and hoping his X-wings will do the job.

What about replacing X-wing with Z-95's?

Maybe they are the central pawns and maybe the side ones.

I see arquitens more like bishops given the range and its navigational limitations.

Raiders has not enough range. They are more like Knight due to her threat range and awesome maneuverability.

Pawn: gozanti. Activation padding. Expendables. Used to block threats like BTAvenger.

Queen: ISD. Nothing it cannot do. Speed, damage output, maneuverability. If you loose it quickly you are almost done.

Knights: glads and raiders. Short range but good maneuverability. Demo and DCs make them unpredictable. Pawn hunters. Hard to defeat a fleet by themselves.

Bishops: arquitens. Long range, poor maneuverability.

Towers: dictor and quasar. Board control. Good range.

King: victory obviously, with ERs of course. Move closer and it will crash you. But he is nothing to worry about if you move properly. It always die cause he step in on a trap like overlapping Ackbar shoots or a bomber cloud. We love it, we need it, we blame it.

depending on some setups some pieces could change.
