Ozzy and the Pussycats

By duck_bird, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hey folks,

So I might be going to the regionals in North Carolina this weekend. I am very determined to make Arquitens work! Originally inspired by @Thrindal's Tarkin list, I started off with an ISD, 2 Arqs, and some support. In a store tourney I found out that Tarkin didn't really seem necessary to the build. So I'm switching back to my first love, Ozzel.

So I've run this in a few practice games so far:

Quote

Name: Ozzy and the Pussycats
Faction: Imperial
Commander: Admiral Ozzel

Assault: Most Wanted
Defense: Fire Lanes
Navigation: Intel Sweep

ISD Cymoon 1 Refit (112)
• Admiral Ozzel (20)
• Strategic Adviser (4)
• Intensify Firepower! (6)
• Gunnery Team (7)
• XI7 Turbolasers (6)
• XX-9 Turbolasers (5)
= 160 Points

Arquitens Command Cruiser (59)
• Captain Needa (2)
• Engine Techs (8)
• Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
= 76 Points

Arquitens Command Cruiser (59)
• Engine Techs (8)
• Quad Battery Turrets (5)
= 72 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Comms Net (2)
= 25 Points

Squadrons:
• Ciena Ree (17)
• 2 x Lambda Shuttle (30)
• Valen Rudor (13)
= 60 Points

Total Points: 393

Or something close to it. I've tried a version with less squad support and a raider. I'm considering changing up a few things. The list's biggest weakness is for sure a full 134 Sloane relay list. I really don't have a good answer to that. My next fear is that with a Cymoon (and no defensive retrofit) I'm very vulnerable to dual ISD lists which attempt to bulldoze my ISD quickly. So I have a few thoughts:

  • Change the Cymoon to a Kuat, or ISD2. Now this does mean I lose out on IF!, but could be compensated for by giving the 2nd arq TRCs instead of QBTs. This also opens the option for Advanced Gunnery to further put the squeeze on enemies. This would also free up the Gozanti to be more useful than simply refreshing tokens.
  • Sensor Net versus Intel Sweep. I've played around with Intel sweep and found that while it is a pretty solid 75 points, it really limits my deployment and makes the battle somewhat predictable. I am wondering if Sensor Net is enough of a deterrent to force people into FL or AG/MW instead.

I would love to hear ideas and feedback! I definitely want to stick with the two Arqs, and I'm pretty set on Ozzy. The rest of the specifics are still up in the air. The Cymoon is SO good in certain matchups and a real liability in others.

Thanks!

In Sensor Net your moderate squadrons could easily be engaged in combat and unable to move tokens around. At least with Intel Sweep you only need to move one token to make it easier to grab the third one for 75 points.

Hondo could be good on a smaller ship allowing an extra counter for IF and a repair or squadron token to coms net away.

You could also drop to Arquitens CLs and ditch engine techs for a good chunk of squadron points. 3 TIE-F or Bossk or IG88 if you can't command them and need rogue.

I have found recently that I am getting diminishing returns on Strategic advisor in my list. My list isn't really a last first list so its inclusion isn't always useful. I just played a game with a friend testing using Tua on the Cymoon instead to get the Defensive Retrofit. I was able to fit ECM and it helped, I think EWS would also be a good choice, it all depends on the opponent which is better. ECM is better vs other large ships, EWS is better vs large squad lists. Only issue was that change maxed my list at 400 points so no bid. Not a huge deal as I actually prefer 2nd but I like a small bid (4-5 points) otherwise folks catch on that you prefer 2nd and give you first...

Huh. Very good point on Sensor Net. I think sticking with Intel is smarter then, yeah. And Hondo! Duh! Jeez I never remember that guy is even a thing. Don't think I've ever used him!

I've contemplated going down to light cruisers to save a ton of points but I dunno. Whenever I run Ozzel the whole point is to as unpredictable as possible. ET lets you go from literally 0 to 4 in a turn. Probably too expensive though, you may be right.

I definitely miss the defensive retrofit, that's for sure. That said the Strategic Adviser is not to give myself the last-first, but to prevent it from happening to me. Simply having the last activation is incredibly useful for Arquitens. Forcing an enemy hard-hitter to move before your last ship goes is super important. As a result I'm hesitant to give it up. If I switched over to a Kuat or ISD2 though I wouldn't have to. So it's tough.

I think I'll try for a practice match with another ISD type today and see how it fares. I worry the Arqs' damage will be underwhelming without IF! They already sometimes feel like expensive CR90s. But it's oh so satisfying when you pull off an awesome arc dodge or land behind a mc30 that thought it was trapping you.
