Bent X-wing laser cannons

By BigBadAndy, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

I tried to search up the topic but didnt get any meaningful results so forgive me if this is already covered somewhere.

I have a T-65 X-Wing where the laser cannons are bent at the ends and tilt out awkwardly. I’m accustomed to just heating up plastic miniatures with a hair dryer, but the x-wing ships are a different material than I’m used to and it doesn’t seem to work. Any tips on... fixing my X-wing tips?

Replace them with brass rod.

Replace them or (Don't sue me over this.) I just bend them back with my hand. So far, it seems like they're strong enough to just bend, so far...

The more times you bend them the more likely they are to break. The material fatigues each time it's bent.

Warm water

Do they actually have a curvature to them, or are they askew?

Askew cannons can be pried off the wing and re-glued.

I had some in a display case by a window and the drooped in the sun/heat :(

Is this for real?

The tips are bent outward. I really don’t know how it happened...

You’ll be hearing from my lawyer!! No, seriously I think I’m just going to use the brute force method, followed by glue when I break them.

Yes.

Pin vice drill, relevant diameter of brass rod (or paperclips also work), and a little bit of patience.

I've been meaning to do mine, but I never use my x wing anyway.

E: but if the whole gun is attached at the the wrong angle to the wing, it won't help.

Contact FFG customer service. Send them a pic of the bent model and I can almost guarantee you they’ll send you a new one. Their customer service is excellent and has never let me down.

I couldn’t find a demonstration of this in my DIY resource of choice (YouTube). Do you have a link to a procedure? I’m probably not going to do this but I would be really curious to see what they do. I think it would be difficult to attach the little dish part at the end for example. And I’m curious how it would look.

There isn't one for x wing lasers that I know of. But it's pretty standard practice for banners, spear poles, bows etc.
