Skirmish

I'm interested in just playing the game on a 3x3 table at a skirmish level. Has there been any word on if this is a viable option or is the game really intended for larger sizes?

At the end of the day you can play with as many points and size of table as you like. Thats what wargaming is all about.

There may be slight issues with gun ranges and model speeds on smaller boards but can't see it being too big a problem.

I think the idea on a 3x3 would just be to play 400 points instead of the 800 that you would typically play on the 3x6 set up. That's basically how the learn to play scenario works out.

This would be great except for the commander requirement. Right now all the commanders (none of which have been release yet) are too expensive imho

You can run Leia with a couple troopers and an atrt if you wanted

Remember the game is kind of bland if you just play 400pts You need 800 and objectives to get the real feel. It may just feel like a shoot fest at 400pts

When I started playing Armada the L2P wasn't that much fun. It did however provide a good way that you could L2P.

I think you play a few games at 400-500 points on a 3x3 and see if you are having fun or not, Armada was certainly in the not fun on a 3x3.

If space is the issue, I have a 6x2.5' fold up table and some 600mm x 1200mm x 10mm boards (which is close to 2x4') that I sit on top. I use a mat but you could easily cover it with a green sheet or tablecloth or some other cloth.

I also didn't really enjoy the Armada L2P or come to think of it the X-WING one either. I don't have high hopes for this one. I think I'm going to use suppression rules when I introduce people to it.

re the commander requirement... ignore it and use the replacement commander rules.

ie one unit of corp is elevated to commander rank... only generic command cards can be chosen, limit the hand to 3 cards instead of 7.
