Overrun Jet Trooper and Parting Blow Stun

By TheWelcomeMat88, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

Ok imagine this scenario with me. There could be a variety of situations but let's just say it's an Imperial vs Imperial match and a Jet Trooper has played the card "Overrun." The Jet Trooper walks into a space containing a hostile Royal Guard. As the Jet Trooper attempts to move out of the space with the Royal Guard in it (because a space is adjacent to itself right? If I'm wrong here then just imagine this is after the Jet tries to leave the space next to the Royal Guard, but someone please clarify how this would work) the Royal Guard plays "Parting Blow." The royal guard is able to get damage through on the attack and stun the Jet Trooper but the Jet trooper is not defeated. Now lets say the Jet Trooper was in the space with the Royal Guard, or a space next to it where there was another figure (lets get crazy and say an ATDP just for illustration). There aren't any nearby spaces for the Jet trooper to be placed. Since it is stunned, it can no longer voluntarily move (and let's say it has no actions left to clear the stun, though if it did have one action left I'm not sure it would be able to spend it since it would be sharing a space with another figure which is impossible). Where does the Jet Trooper get put (ie who chooses to put it where it goes?). I'm assuming the owner of the Jet Trooper. So the question would be, based on where the Jet is put, whether it is "placed" in the space (meaning it can't use the overrun ability to go through other figures it may pass on the way to its final resting space for the turn) or is it "moved" to the space meaning the Overrun is still triggered. I tend to think it would be "placed" and not trigger Overrun but I wanted to hear thoughts. I just thought it was a bizarre situation worth postulating about, and on missions like "Shielded" on Nal Hutta (if Royal Guards ever get enough cards/buff to make a comeback) it could happen in competitive play.

From the RRG:

  • There are rare situations where a figure can lose all of its movement points while in a space where it cannot end its movement (such as in another figure’s space). In this situation, place the moving figure in the closest empty space. If there are multiple closest empty spaces, the player controlling the figure chooses.

I would argue that losing the ability to spend movement points is similar enough to losing the movement points themselves that this rule would kick in. Therefore I'd rule that the owner of the Jet Trooper immediately places his figure in the nearest available space of choice. Afterwards, he could remove stun (assuming an action available or some other method) and spend the rest of the movement points.

If a figure gets stunned while sharing a space with another figure and doesn't have an action left to remove stunned to continue movement, you place the figure in the closest valid space. (Ah, you can't perform the action to remove stunned while sharing a space, so you need to end movement, unless you have an ability to remove stunned without spending an action.)

This has been ruled in conjunction of Incoming if I recall correctly. (Can't find it though.)

And similar scenarios have been discussed in this forum too.
