2 X7 and a Striker

By CasoPrime, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Been thinking about trying this list out tomorrow at league night. Mostly because I am not sold on the list I am taking to regionals over the weekend. Thoughts, changes?

Colonel Vessery — TIE Defender 35
Expertise 4
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II 1
TIE/x7 -2
Ship Total: 38
"Pure Sabacc" — TIE Striker 22
Swarm Leader 3
Lightweight Frame 2
Adaptive Ailerons 0
Ship Total: 27
Countess Ryad — TIE Defender 34
Adaptability 0
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II 1
TIE/x7 -2
Ship Total: 33

98 Total

I think it'd be hard to get the target lock to proc Vessery's ability. Striker can't target lock and Ryad only has one action.

Sorry. Apparently my squad builder didn't save. I had switched vessery to steel

I've had some luck with a Striker backing up two TIE/Ds, so depending on your play style, downgrading to x7s to fit Sabacc should work out.

If I'm placing a single Expertise, it'll be on Ryad over Maarek Stele. Her green K-turns give her an advantage against stress that Maarek doesn't have. Meanwhile, he really wants Crits. Perhaps give Stele something like A Score To Settle? It's a mini-Expertise with a drawback but it gives crits.

Pure Sabacc is going to get nuked off the table pretty much instantly, so be ready for that.

Well, I am hoping I can fly Sabaac as bait and keep some heat off of the defenders, if not, then hopefully sabaac can throw 6-7 dice at someone. Also thought about this list as well

Unnamed Squadron (100)

Countess Ryad — TIE Defender 34
Predator 3
Stealth Device 3
TIE/x7 -2
Ship Total: 38
Glaive Squadron Pilot — TIE Defender 34
A Score to Settle 0
Stealth Device 3
TIE/x7 -2
Ship Total: 35
"Pure Sabacc" — TIE Striker 22
Swarm Leader 3
Lightweight Frame 2
Adaptive Ailerons 0
Ship Total: 27
Edited by CasoPrime

I ran this to good effect:

TIE Striker: · "Pure Sabacc" (22)
Predator (3)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive ailerons (0)
TIE Defender: Glaive Squadron Pilot (34)
· Swarm Leader (3)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/x7 (-2)
TIE Defender: · Colonel Vessery (35)
Juke (2)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE/x7 (-2)
-- TOTAL ------- 99/100p. --

All at PS6, the aim was to shoot PS, Vess then Glaive all at the same target.

In my opinion, X7 should give Maarek enough evasiveness to avoid the fact that he gives free consistency to his opponent. Just don't put A Debt to Pay on the Ghost and you should be fine.

I ran pure sabacc at Omaha and was thoroughly impressed with Trick shot and Palp backup. More often than should normally happen I palped/focused into 5 damage. WIth Trick shot you also aren't limited to hanging with your pals, or trying to setup an obvious killbox from different directions.

I've also been tinkering with a TIE/D Stele with A score to settle. When it works, Whoa baby does it work. When it doesn't? Ouchtown. But by taking Pure Sabacc you are already embracing the dice gods for their influence! Double down!

I already have a sacrifice to the dice gods planned before Tulsa. I hope it is enough to appease them. But seriously, I am going to fly this list some tonight, and if I don't like it, I am going to go back to Rey with T65's, or Keyan - Ezra - Roark Build I am messing with.

Edit: Or this Variation

I wouldn't use Swarm Leader on Defenders...that really gets away from a lot of their worth.

What about this?

Ryad

X7

PTL

TIE Mk. II

Vessery

X7

Expertise

TIE Mk. II

Pure Sabacc

Ailerons

LWF

Choice of EPT (Snap Shot? VI?)

2 tough defender who can both hit very hard, and Sabacc is the Imperial Biggs - if you don't kill him, you are in trouble

That wouldn't be bad. I used Swarm Leader on Vessery last night with Predator on Sabaac and PTL on ryad. Being able to roll 5-6 dice at times is really nice, especially with the mid PS I am either shooting after everyone, or can move as I need to get out of arc so I know if I need the token, or have the chance to spend it before hand. Expertise Vessery seems solid as well, not having to rely on the focus for offense and being able to use it for defense. That was actually my first time flying a striker, and man can those things move. I think I have found what I am flying at regionals this weekend. Interesting enough with the striker to keep it fun, and if flown well I think I can be fairly competitive. I knows its not top tier, but I enjoy it and that will help a lot going into a long weekend of X wing.

Swarm leader defenders are awesome. Keep them spread out and come in at angles and you will know who the target is, then spend the evade of the ones not in danger. Why let an evade go to waste when it can destroy and annihilate the enemy ?

Trip swarm leader defenders just won the regional here couple weeks ago.

I saw that game yesterday on the tube of yous. It has made me think about changing the striker for a third defender. But Sabaac left alone did some work on Tuesday, and Adaptive ailerons really messes with people. I also like the close to shared PS between all of them, so going to a PS1 Defender changes a lot for me.

Havent tried it with Sabacc. Definately gives you a Biggs effect which is nice as well, letting you be a bitter more aggressive with the others.

But the PS1 Defender blocks as well. This is probably the missing element most people dont see in the list. He gets the evade, blocks, and his evade is free for swarm leaderness. Flew a swarm leader Quickdraw, with score to settle Vessery and PS1 Defender yesterday and my PS1 blocked Lowhrick, while supplying Quickdraw with the range 1 swarm leader bonus. Later in the game, he blocked snapshot stress ezra who was trying to snap Vessery, but instead Vessery got a nice range 2 shot and killed Ezra.

I mean, I have until about tomorrow at 11 am to decide my swiss doesn't start until 5:30 and about a three hour drive. I have played exactly 3 games with a striker. I lost Sabaac twice and the defenders were still there to clean up, one game got cut short, but a guy going with me to the regional is running a sick triple tactician Auzituck/Y wing list, and I don't know if I could have stayed behind that many 180 firing arcs.

UPDATE:

Sabaac, Ryad, and Vessery help fly me to 20th(out of 76) in my first ever regional. Ended 3-3 that could have easily been 4-2... Tournament fatigue is real though...
