Thweek vs Adaptability

By sharrrp, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Had this come up over the weekend, pretty sure I did this right just want to get the group's opinion.

Thweek wants to copy the highest PS on his opponent's side, in this case a printed value of 7. That particular ship however has Adaptability equipped. Since Thweek happens before setup he gets the printed 7, then when the copied ship is placed it applies Adaptability at that time and goes up to 8 but Thweek remains at 7.

Correct?

Incorrect, see emphasis below:

"Thweek" is treated as having the pilot skill value you had after setup .

The pilot skill value of "Thweek" does not change if your pilot skill value changes or you are destroyed.

Ah you're right. That is the text on the condition card. Casual gaming we were going by memory it helps to read the cards.

Thweek has that funny text - the condition is assigned to a ship before setup, but the PS is fixed after set up - almost surely to specifically allow Thweek to grab the PS adjustment from Adaptability.

If the cards had been printed in reverse order, I bet Thweek would have had a simpler text on that condition, copied the PS when selecting the condition target before set up, and would have wound up being completely ****ed by Adaptability. But since Adaptability already existed, they had to add an extra hitch to Thweek's condition so that this wouldn't happen.

Because of the timing difference in regards to when you assign the condition and when you actually receive the altered pilot skill: remember that Thweek deploys at his native pilot skill (4) and not the pilot skill he's copying. Figured this was worth noting given the original question...
