Do Youtube Ad lengths increase exponentially?

By Wookiee_Slayer, in X-Wing Off-Topic

So hear me out, I watch a lot of X-wing video's of new ships, tactics, sytem opens and other friendly matches. And although I personally do not like ads interrupting my video, I generally am OK with ads before a video. However, these ads were once skipable, then they became un-skipable but they stayed a short time (around 15 seconds to 45 seconds at most). Now they ads during the video are about 1 minute long AND un-skipable and the ads before the video (get this:) Are 3 frikking minutes long AND un-skipable... 3 whole minutes! Now I of course just refresh the page if this happens, but the real question is: Do these ads increase in length the more videos you watch? And mind you, the ads arent even related to my searches on Google, so I doubt its the ''cookies''.

Before you all scream to me '' GET AN AD-BLOCKER!!'' Let me stop you: I am not looking for a solution... I just wanna know if their length increases exponentially... Because it seems like it...

Discuss.

PS. I did not have anywhere else to post my question, so I did it on the most civil forum I could think off: The X-wing (off-topic) forum... so please dont be mad if this should have been posted somewhere entirely else :D

I don’t watch a huge number of videos, but the ones I’m getting before a video are either short, 15 seconds or so unskipable, or longer, 1 minute plus, but still skipable. Haven’t seen any yet that are both long and unskipable.

What are ads?

Working in SEO, I can confirm Big Brother is indeed watching you...

I haven't noticed it, unskippables are usually 30 seconds max. Even those are rare. Maybe YT can detect wether the browser has an adblocker installed but inactive and avoids burning those users that chose to create income for the site. If I'd get frustratingly long ads I would turn on the adblocker like I do for many other sites that go beyond my personal tolerance (some TV channel websites run unskippable 5 minute ads, that is just ludicrous, especially for 30 second meme videos or some junk like that). I do turn it on when I get too many ads I don't want to see (trailers for movies I intend to watch).

Pure speculation, though, I don't know wether this would even work on a technical level. Maybe it does, as most news pages that force you to disable adblock have no issue when the ads are blocked via noScript.

I use mine because of those adds that take up your whole screen, warm place in **** waiting for the guy who thought that up.
