Leia Swarm

By The Jabbawookie, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Ever since reading @geek19‘s Leia article I’ve been itching to try her. Should I swap the CR90B for a flotilla and squads? Not too certain about Navigational Hazards either; Salvation would be the HA ship.

Organa’s Piranhas

Yes, I would swap the CR-90B for a GR-75 + Toryn Farr + Bright Hope, and one generic A-Wing. The GR-75 can activate all three A-Wings with Leia. The fighters need to protect Salvation probably the most. Alternatively, drop one Hamerhead to upgrade the CR-90 to a TRC-90A, and add the Toryn Farr Bright Hope.

Instead of Navigational Hazards, I would consider Dangerous Territory.

I really like both of those suggestions; I’ll probably go with the second, because I told a buddy I’d lend him an HH. Toryn can also help Salvation crit-fish. Thanks! :D

@The Jabbawookie have you flown this yet? I'm thinking of running something similar tomorrow — mine doesn't have IO or Tycho, but adds in 3 generic A-Wings.

I’m afraid I can’t run it until Thursday. Good luck, and let me know how it goes. :)

Will do.

@The Jabbawookie I ran this today. Thanks for the inspiration. Here's the fleet:

I decided to go with a fourth Hammerhead instead of a second CR-90 to give me some points for a bid and the other A-Wings.

I faced my friend Dave's Jerjerrod fleet. He ran Demolisher, a Quasar, 2 Raiders, and a bunch of TIE Defenders, including Marek, plus Black Squadron and IG-88.

I won the initiative bid and chose to go first. We played his Dangerous Territory.

I had 3 more deployments than him. My first drop was Bright Hope in the center of the table at Speed 1. The next two deployments were my 4 squadrons around Bright Hope. Meanwhile he deployed a Raider to my far right going Speed 4, and the Quasar just to my left of center at Speed 3 along with a couple of TIE Defenders. My next four deployments were the Hammerheads just to the left of Bright Hope at Speed 1, angled slightly toward the center, so I could run them at the Quasar or turn hard toward the Raider. He deployed his other Raider directly across the four Hammerheads, also at Speed 4. His Demolisher was placed far to my left at Speed 3. I didn't want to risk facing off against both Demolisher and his swarm of Defenders with Jaina's Light and Salvation with little support from the rest of my fleet, so I set them up on my far right at Speed 2 and 1, respectively. That put my squadrons between his squadrons and the rest of my fleet.

Dave came out so fast that I was actually able to get shots on both of his Raiders on Turn 1, but I had to split fire between them. I did manage to get him to discard one Evade token from one, and I did 2 shield damage to the other between all of my corvettes.

On the next turn I was able to dump an External Racks shot from one of the Hammerheads into the full health Raider, managing to do a total of 8 damage without an Accuracy (that he braced to 4), then ramming it, leaving it with 1 hull remaining. It activated next, firing back at that Hammerhead and speeding away toward his squadrons. Fortunately for me I was able to activate an A-Wing with Bright Hope to deliver the coup de grace. I sent the other two unnamed A-Wing squadrons to their doom attacking his ball of Defenders.

Sure enough, Dave activated the Quasar next and his squadrons managed to kill all 3 generic A-Wing squadrons, and I managed 2 damage from one of the counter attacks and 1 on all of the others.

Jaina's Light and Salvation put a serious hurt on his other Raider, leaving it at 1 hull.

The rest of that turn was just jockeying for position for the next turn with the Hammerheads.

During the Squadron Phase, I put Shara in the middle of his ball of fighters, and IG-88 attacked her but failed to get an Accuracy for her Scatter.

The next turn I started with 2 Hammerheads within close range of the Quasar and the Bright Hope right in front of it blocking it in place. I used External Racks on one of the Hammerheads, but the other one was able to put the kill shot into the Quasar with just a Concentrate Fire. Both Hammerheads finished their move at point-blank range of Demolisher's side arcs (one in each). Demolisher had already activated, but I was worried about them for next turn.

Before the Quasar died, it was able to activate the squadrons one more time. 4 squadrons took shots at Shara Bey, and by spending and discarding Scatter, Brace, Scatter, Brace, she was able to survive with 1 hull remaining, and doing 3 damage in all 5 counter-attacks. She would later die in the Squadron Phase to IG-88.

The other Raider was able to get away, but by doing so he put it into a position that on the next turn it would fly off the board even with Navigate and Jerjerrod.

The rest of the game went pretty much this way. I lost a Hammerhead to Demolisher (I might have lost it the round before this), and Demolisher also put a serious hurt on Salvation with IG-88 putting in the last damage during the Squadron Phase. I was able to finish off all of the TIE Defenders with flak (and one use of External Racks). I probably would have been able to kill Demolisher at the top of Round 6, but Dave conceded.

In the end, I was able to pick up 2 tokens, and he had 4.

He got 214 points with the tokens. If I had killed Demolisher in Round 6, I would have had a bit more than 400.

This fleet was really enjoyable to fly. I will probably run it again sometime soon. I have some photos of the match that I might post tomorrow.

@stonestokes That's great to hear, congrats on the win; sounds like it was a good fight! I can't wait to try this now. It's very encouraging that a heavy squad list didn't tear through the swarm, because I suspect Rebel aces are the forecast for me...

Well, Shara pretty much soloed his squadron force. He could not get an accuracy in all four shots. So there was a fair amount of luck my way right there.

Got my game in tonight. It was against a Dodonna Yavaris with 3 TFO+ER Hammerheads, 2 GR75s and a full bomber ball. I chose first and picked his Precision Strike. We deployed in more or less a battle line, with Yavaris in the top right and Jaina’s Light in the bottom left. I surprised him by jumping from speed 1 to 3 turn one, and the fleets met. It was a brutal slugging match. In the end, concentrated flak brought down Keyan and Jan. Two of his Hammerheads and both GR75s died as well; I lost one Hammerhead on round 4 before we called it for time, resulting in an 8-3 win. My opponent was feeling a little off, though. Tycho and Shara were generally just avoided, instead of killed, which made Jan’s death a huge deal. Next week I’ve been challenged to a Leia vs Garm match, to prove to a nonbeliever she’s not the new worst commander.

Awesome! Well done @The Jabbawookie!

@The Jabbawookie, I've now run this thing three more times, once against a novice player and twice against a brand new player. The second game against the new player I only won by 40 points, so I'm guessing that this will struggle against more seasoned players. But, for me, this fleet is a pure joy to fly, and I plan on flying it a lot more in the future.

Just popped in here because I dreamed up a fairly similar Leia build and I was browsing the forums to see how I could tweak it. Glad to see someone having success with it!

I like the cut of your jib!

Leia msu is good. Drop the nebulon entirely if you decide on heavy squads.
