Triple Vipers

By j_man_04, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm thinking about picking up another Guns for Hire so I can a) field triple vipers and b) field 4 starfighters.

This could be a fun use of triple vipers. The Plasmas could be handy in taking out the bulk of a large base ship's shields in the first engagment.

Thweek (28)
Fire-Control System (2)
Glitterstim (2)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)
Virago (1)

Black Sun Assassin (28)
Predator (3)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)

I haven't got my hands on the new Viper expansion, but I love me some Vipers. Let us know how it performs...I'm certainly interested.

Thanks in advance

@Pewpewpew BOOM has a good write up on his successes with Triple Vipers in the Battle Reports section.

Mine is quite a bit different from that list, though.

There were triple vipers on a recent gold squad stream too kicking the *** of triple Wookiees. The such an x-wing hipster blog has a lot to say about them too.

I am pretty sure it was 4 wookies. Best match I have watched in a while. Both players were great. A well earned victory for the guy. I wonder how he ended up in the tourney?

Thanks for the plug @jwilliamson12 ;)

I had a couple games with them before the Seattle Regional then 6 more that day...and hoping to get in another game or two this week with a revised list.

My big takeaways are in the Nest of ‘Vipers post in the batrep section, so I won’t bother going into them again.

I found that folks like to focus on Thweek early. Your plasmas potentially punish people for doing so which is cool. However, I think you should reconsider Guri. Her ability made a HUGE difference in some of my games.

Thanks for the insight! I can bump one to Guri and drop the torpedo to keep a bid. Turns out I only have one plasma in my current collection anyways

Did you find Predator to work well with Guri? I feel she could also benefit from PTL. Though I suppose PS5 isn’t great for being able to reposition.

Until I get my third Viper, I’m thinking of running this in the meantime to get used to flying them:

Thweek (28)
Fire-Control System (2)
Glitterstim (2)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)
Virago (1)

Guri (30)
Predator (3)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)

Fenn Rau (28)
Fearlessness (1)
Autothrusters (2)
Concord Dawn Protector (1)

I would consider dropping ‘stims to give a Fenn PTL, but whatever works for you :)

My take on trips vipers would be:

Guri (30)
Attanni Mindlink (1)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)

Thweek (28)
Fire-Control System (2)
Glitterstim (2)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)
Virago (1)

Dalan Oberos (30)
Attanni Mindlink (1)
Autothrusters (2)
StarViper Mk. II (-3)

Total: 92

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why nobody is interested in Attanni anymore. It was nerfed out of ubiquity, but it's still cheap and amazing and Guri is an extremely effective platform for it.

With the above list, there's still 8 points to spend on torpedoes and/or an initiative bid.

I’d go for PtL on Fenn and predator on a ‘Viper. I find the bendy BR waaay too useful coupled with a white turn to restrict myself to green straights and banks. Unpredictability is a’Viper’s strength and should be capitalized.

I played against triple StarVipers a couple of weeks ago. Xizor, Guri and Dalan Oberos, all with Mk2, Push the Limit and Autothrusters. I was running Timewalk Asajj alongside Bossk.

I didn't cause a single point of damage to them.

I'd suggest you try at least one game with Guri with PTL. The bank-boost can do some amazing things particularly when combined with other actions. I totally get going for Attanni or Predator. That's solid efficiency without drawbacks. But sometimes you just want to go wide-open-throttle, and boost-barrel roll. I don't know that it's better per-se, but it's certainly a huge amount of fun.

If I were flying, triple Vipers, I'd want to bring Thweek (SV Mk. II, Virago, FCS, AT), Guri (SV Mk. II, AT, Intensity or PTL (I'd choose PTL)), and an Assassin (SV Mk. II, AT, PTL). That leaves 8 points for torps/illicit on Thweek!

I second this notion. I've had some experience flying two Black Sun Assasins with PTL, Autothrusters, and StarViper M.K II. They're horrifically slippery with the curved barrel roll.

I also love the lower PS vipers, expensive? Yes, but fun to experiment with...

I ran a heavy Bossk list with 2 naked black sun enforcers(ps1) this weekend past against a Kanan/Fenn list.(Bossk--VI,mangler,Dengar,recon spec, 2 x blk sun enf vipers w/auto thrusters) Now, granted there were no "Harpoons"(cause we have none yet) to contend with, but the vipers proved to be the winning factor. I was quite surprised to fly an un-scarred viper in the end with no one left to shoot at....I am excited to get my claws into the new Viper expansion and try out some of the goodies you lads have been talking about...thankyou for all your insight guys!!

Cheers
