Troop Heavy Lists

I disagree with this, supposedly according to the rules as written, Weiss won't affect the Arsenal on the ATST so unless they FAQ that, he's probably not worth taking.

With any cover or a dodge token or a little bit of luck, you are not guaranteed a hit with your ion blaster and could be dodge out of. Armor is super strong against this weapon. That and the ATST out ranges the ion gun so shoot and suppress with the mortar and that's 2 suppression tokens and 2-3 dead troopers. Then the ATST can back up and do it again next turn. I think double ATSTs are going to be the bane of trooper lists.

Keywords are cumulative, so Arsenal 2+2=4.

Why in the world would FFG release Weiss with Arsenal 2 if it didn't stack with the unit it came with?

What he's referring to is the fact that, probably by oversight, the rules never actually say that's the case. Weapon keywords stack, but RAW, the L2P/RRG never actually say the same is true for ability keywords. For some reason.

This means Weiss will never be played. The only logical conclusion is that they do stack.

This is why it's a pdf. They'll update it so they don't have ID:10t errors down the line.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious what the intent was. They just... forgot to put it into the rules.

I agree with the intent, I was just pointing out what it said. For all we know WE are the editors for them.

Weiss would still be useful in other vehicles (which would be released later down the line)

I still think that due to range and activation counts, ATST will be able to mitigate most Rebel ion guns. ARMOR is the toughest keyword right now. RT-st with big laser is the best answer right now vs. ATST.

I agree it is very ambiguous. If you look under Weapon Keywords in the Learn to Play rules it states:

“Weapon keywords are cumulative; when performing an attack that includes two weapons that have the impact 1 keyword, these two keywords combine to add up to impact 2“

So clearly it’s the intent for them to stack. It would just be nice to have it stated explicitly. Especially since Arsenal is a Unit Keyword, not a Weapon Keyword.

Weapon Keywords stack, but that doesn't mean that Unit Keywords do or have to.

Unit Keywords don't have to stack, they are triggered by something and then do something. If a unit had 2 cards that gave it Cover 1 and took 4 hits then card 1 would trigger and resolve removing 1 hit and then card 2 would trigger and resolve removing 1 dice. As such wouldn't the effect of Arsenal 2 on two cards be that you declare you are firing a weapon at a target, this then triggers card 1, and you then combine the original weapon with a second. after you have resolved card 1's effect you would then resolve card 2, which would take the original weapon you announced and add either the same weapon or a different one if you had 3 into a second attack.

Assuming I have read this correctly, that multiple cards trigger for multiple effects: The problem is, we have no rules that provide clarity to the idea of trigger/action and what may happen when multiple cards are triggered at the same time. Page 11 of the RR covers this idea right up to the point where it fails to cover simultaneous effects due to the same trigger. It may also get worse if both players have effects that trigger and can affect each others outcomes.

Is Weiss can’t be used on the at-st they become even easier to deal with. They can then only shoot two units per turn and all together wont be doing that much damage.

I do expect a lot of Troop heavy list.

It is a miniatures game of thrilling infantry combat in the Star Wars universe. and at 1600 point you only have 3 heavy and 5 support slots so it is very clear what the game is going as for right now.

What the future wil bring only FFG knows.
