Imperials, I finally get it...

By Kehl_Aecea, in X-Wing

So, I'm primarily a Rebel player, but I own everything because I have a problem... I'm also a collector.

Anyway, there was an X-wing night at a newish game store (old store, new management) and I decided to try out a list I've been itching to try...

TIE Silencer (test pilot) and two Gunboats (Nu Squadron). Gunboats are **** fun even without a turn around... I didn't get enough time with the Silencer to have an opinion.

"But why?" You might be asking.

My opponent's list was Miranda, Jan, and Asokha. In the second round, my Silencer got hit by 6 dice from the K-wing, evaded 1, then got picked off from a TLT shot from Jan.

The Gunboats managed to get rid of Miranda from a proton torpedo/ion missile/rock combo, on fell to Jan's TLT, the it be took her out but couldn't get away from the rebel TIE.

So, yeah, I get it. I really do. Now I feel better about myself for NOT flying that particular K-wing or TLTs. That just wasn't fun to fly against.

This is generally how i feel about the majority of rebel lists. It feels like total crap and useless or its some janky crap that makes me go "Thats...legal?" majority of the time.

i dont like rebels. Playing or facing them, i just dont like them. Either not even a threat because the list was just bad as bad can be, or something they were abusing was just beyond frustrating to deal with.

edit: GUNBOATS FTW

Not all rebel lists are like that, mine are just fun, my opponents may say different, but my bomber and 2 T-70 X-Wings doesn’t seem to abuse anything, and is nice and thematic

Thinking about a Resistance list like that. Don't have the bomber yet; so how do you run it?

Loadout is

”crimson specialist” with adv. optics, bomblet generator, trajectory sim, crossfire, and deflective plating

yes, I’m dropping bombs at PS4, but it does affect people’s actions for repositioning, and fenn rau may not wanna hang so close to the ghost with bombs flying everywhere

Thanks for the info. I think I will try running it next time.

Don't overlook the tricks that the Empire employs either: Vader crew, Palpatine, Quickdraw's double tap, Kylo's ISYTDS, just to name a few. The Imperials can do you dirty too.

And Scum is... it can be very nasty too.

They all have an upgrade or combo that leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you go up against them. Some are more prevalent than others.

I fly all three factions, but if something doesn't feel fair, I tend to avoid it or limit it its use (like TLT---Not judging anyone; it's my own quibble). If that makes me a scrub, then I guess I'm a scrub.

------------------------------

I thought the post was going to be about finally understanding the magic of flying TIEs in all their forms. They're my favorite ships to fly, simply for all the re-positioning you can do. Once I started flying Imperials, my eyes were truly open and I felt like I could "See the Matrix" so-to-speak. Strikers are my spirit animals--you know what I mean.

Seriously. That was my entire Wednesday night this week. And I don't play Rebels nearly at all, so I am not clear on what's possible.

Was told this week that Rey (crew) gets to slurp up and store Focus tokens from any friendly ship. Yeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhh, not true. But I didn't want to shut the game down to rules-lawyer so basically got screwed by "honest cheating" because the guy is new so he really doesn't have a handle on the game yet. (Can that be a thing??!!)

Plus, he's netlisting Miranda, Lowwrickk and Pava, with bomblet, TLT and Reinforce so kinda already playing a PIA list. All he needs to add is 'Poons and he's be flying nearly every NPE card in the game (for Rebels).

/sorry about the rant (tosses coin to Wuher)

I put hyperspace comms relay on crimson instead for optimal deployment at ps 12! :)
Love that filthy bomber!

I really hope this thread doesn't turn into people from different factions tossing mud and rotten food at each other. Who am I kidding? Of course I do!

Seriously though, I don't like to fly broken stuff unless I feel like I thought of it. I typically don't fly the boogeyman lists. I like the good stuff, but I guess I don't want to be "that guy" - though I definitely don't blame anyone who does.

I try to not to fly lists that make my opponent not have fun.

As a new player I think you were doing him a disservice by allowing this to run. The “your ship” rule is pretty fundamental to the game. This would only take a minute to explain and is part of learning the game when new to it. If he takes a huff and stops playing it’s not the sort of person you want to play with anyway.

Wait what?

Just tell him how it's played, instead of let him run around with wrong rules on "your ship" in his head.

Wanting to play correctly shouldn't be called rules layering.

Hah!

That's like 90 percent of what gets called rules lawyering.

Are you kidding me?? I did myself a disservice allowing this to run!!

I questioned the interaction, but was told "your ships" not "your ship's". My bro backed him up, and should have known better. I should have questioned the lack of the word "friendly."

No worries, it will get cleared up.

Anywho, primary point was that some of the highjinx that's legal let me think this might be RAW. No one has plopped Rey into a ship before as crew.

I guess a second point to this story is to illustrate the "dangers" of kitchen table play. For the longest time, it was just me vs. my bro. We play once a month or so, so in the "git gud" mentality, we lean on some favorite builds and thus don't play some of the other card combos. Also, the bro does not have every Rebel expac, so he might not even play Rey for that reason. In a moment like this, the "veteran" player has no idea what the card is supposed to do. Learning curve for everyone.

As the Imperial player in the group, I have learned to lose while having fun at the same time.

The worst moment of the night was me driving my Kimogila on a rock in front of 3 T-70s on turn 2. Even being "cheated on" was more fun than that. :o And for that, I have no one to blame but my own inability to judge a 3 bank.

I hate the janky Rebel stuff. That’s why I play 4 Wookiee’s with commandos

Sounds like I don't want to pay with these 90%

+1 like for this.
