Unit out of range

Please clarify the command rule as i cannot find in the RRG what happens with units out of range of the nominated commander.

-The unit must be at range 1–3 of the nominated commander.

So what happens when you pull a order token of a unit thats not in 1-3 range ? It cant do anything ?

it has to be in ranged 1-3 to place it in the command phase, if you are out of ranged you can not be assiged your order token and it goes into the random bag.

So giving orders is basically put a face up order token on one of your units. On your turn you can activate any unit with a face up order token or draw one randomly from your token bag. If the unit is out of command you just can't be 100% sure when you can use that unit.

So thats only for command phase.

The ones you pull at random dont need to be in 1-3 to activate correct ?

Correct. It's pull at random then activate a unit that matches the command icon pulled, or activate one of your units that has a face up token.
