Story Resolution

By Chevee, in CoC Rules Discussion

Well, sent this question to FF with no response...

When does a story resolve?

In the rule book, we've got a green box that tells you to

Resolve each story in the order of your chosing. For each story, resolve the following, in order:

Resolve Terror Struggle

Resolve Combat struggle

Resolve Arcane struggle

Resolve Investigation struggle

Then responses.

Then Actions

Then uncommit characters.

Sooo.... when does the actual story resolve? When do we check skill vs skill. When do success tokens get discarded?

If I have Descendant defending a story that my opponent wins, can I use 2 tokens for his ability before the story resolves?

Chevee

The skill is resolved as the '5th struggle' right after terror, combat, arcane and investigation.

You can't use the ability of Descendant once a story resolves, because it's an Action: - so if he dies, you can't take your tokens right before they win that story.

Once story resolution starts, all stories resolve in the order the active player determines.

If you wanted to remove tokens, you'd have to anticipate this before resolution starts. Ofcourse, it means that Descendant isn't in your discard pile, so you can't really use it in that way.
