Legion Rules Reference Format--Important Differences

By elbmc1969, in Star Wars: Armada

The Legion Rules Reference is out, and there features to note:

  • The cover explicitly says, "Version 1.0". Indicates that FFG intends to issue updated rules, not just FAQs.
  • "Summary of Changes" space that reads, "New entries and changes from previous editions will be noted in this space." Is there hope for an Armada 1.x or 2.0 RRG?
  • Entries are not simply alphabetical. Instead, there are major sections (Card Anatomy, Army Building, Setup, Additional Terrain Rules, Vertical Movement, Glossary, Optional Rules, and Index). The Glossary is the bulk of the book and is still alphabetical.
  • Amusingly, the table of contents gives the wrong page for the Index!
  • There is extensive hyperlinking in the PDF. Essentially every page reference or related topic listed is a hyperlink. The Index is completely hyperlinked. Please FFG, let a player update the Armada RRG like this if you're not going to!
  • The Legion Rules Reference weighs in at 50 pages ...

Isn’t it also supposed to be online only or something?

at 50 pages I would assume so. That would be a hefty book to include in the core set.

That would certainly make new versions easier and much cheaper to put out.

It is the new delivery means for their RRG, I assume. Yes, the Legion Core set does not come with a printed RRG.

Another important difference between Legion and Armada - community size. Star Wars: Legion grew to over 4k members before the game released. NOVA Fleet only has 600 members and is the largest Armada community excluding the forums.

So it makes sense for FFG to go to an online format with a larger community. Everyone plays with the same rules because players are forced to go online to find them.
