I was sorting out my upgrade cards....

By Larky Bobble, in X-Wing

I was organising all my stuff, ships into different bags, upgrades sorted by type, etc... when I decided to seperate all my Rebel, Imperial, and Scum specific upgrades for individual access. Astros auto went to Rebels, Salvaged and Illicits to Scum...

You know where this is going....

Three piles. Three heights...

**** the Imperials got screwed over on the individual upgrade side of things. They have a great ship selection with mostly dud pilots (Ints ets) but very few faction specific oddities. Scum have way more than anyone (Rebels have very minor access to the Illicits).

Great to see the new TIE bumping the numbers a bit, but come on! The imperials need help here to define themselves better!

(Note: My collection ius relatively evenly balanced between factions)

So what I'm hearing, is that all of the bombing issues are Imps fault since they didn't lock down their upgrades properly! Curse you ISB for having constant leaks!

Imps got guts!

No shields all guts, the only proper way to fly ;)

Doesn't that lend itself to the flavor of Imperial though? Each of the three factions fly and behave differently; Imperials are tightly regimented and less prone to wild, fanciful combinations of upgrades.

I like and fly Imperial as much as the other factions; just think how much paperwork you need to fill out just for a Hull Upgrade.

Maybe the Imperials need their own faction-specific card. Maybe a Solar Array upgrade? Only TIE craft can equip the Solar Array upgrade, and it's a third "slot-less" card, like mods or titles.

Also note that the worst faction in the game right now is not Imperials, so it hasn't necessarily hurt them not to have an enormous stack of bad worthless cards.

I've heard that the hull upgrade is a lot of paperwork but doable. It's the Shield Upgrade that usually ends in a court martial and a couple demotions.

It’s even worse when you consider that the Imps just got Turrets in wave 11. Or 10, I forget.

you may equip non-unique Astromech upgrades as Crew upgrades.

unfortunately lambdas can’t take them, but FAA Phantoms would be awesome.

Yeah, this is why RHO squadron was so busy in TIE Fighter.....all those guts getting in the way of lasers.

Got this for an idea:

Solar array: Mod, 0 points

Imperial Tie fighter only

after executing a green maneuver, if you are not stressed, you may immediately perform one free action on your action bar. If you do not perform the free action, you may receive a stress token to increase your atk value by one until the end phase.

you may equip a second mod of up to 3 points.

Sabines Tie says hi :-)

The Problem is not only thecards but also the slots. Imperials ships tend to have less upgrade options when RebelScum while most of the broken combos we see include ships with extensive update slots. And the imperial ships that have a full upgrade bar tend to have it filled with the useless double torp double rocket combo.
So to change things we do not only need more imperial specific upgrades but also new upgrade slots.

One way would be a TIE-Upgrade slot. like every TIE ship can equipt an aditional upgrade as long as it is TIE only.

Or go a different way and include Squadron-Cards for the empire that buff generics. Something like 'If all your ships are TIE-Interceptors and you have only one unique you get 20% Points extra."

I'd much rather it gave an in game buff than a points reduction. I know there are other cards out there that reduce costs, but they are largely isolated to fixing broken ships like the Tie adv. and Khiraxz fighter. I think too many points alterations as well as pre set up bonuses are bad for the game and further encourage winning at the list building stage rather than flying well.

Am I the only one thinking this is a good idea?

But you probably would have to limit this to the TIE/ln. As this is worded now a TIE/sf can take this and become a real monster.

(saying this based on the ruling that Youngsters pilot ability works on TIE/ln, TIE/fo and TIE/sf)

Just make the best ones "Imperial only". :)

Stacks cards into piles, eyeballs height of piles, draws conclusions.

That's just good wholesome science right there.

The System upgrade slot should have been the Imperial's unique upgrade type.

Doesn't make it less true.

Not counting huge ship only stuff and not counting titles (but do counting ship specific modifications which you can argue should not be counted but there aren't enough of them to make a noticeable difference) and counting dual faction cards as belonging to both those factions exclusively there are 53 Rebel only, 45 Scum only and 16 Imperial only upgrades.

While I think Imperials should have a unique upgrade slot, system is not the one to do it.

Most pilots are ‘duds’, not just imperials.
