Other Tatooine (ND, SD, EastMT, SE SK, SW MB)

By deDios, in Star Wars: Armada

Sorry to hit the main channel with this, but I was looking for a roll call of Armada players in this region that feels like it is farthest from the bright center of the galaxy (if there is one).

If you play Armada in ND, SD, Eastern Montana, SE Saskatchewan, or SW Manitoba - can you sound off here?

I'm from Minot, ND and know that someone around here is buying ships from Barnes and Noble. Who are you people?!

I've also heard of players from Bismarck. BTW, Paradox says they're interested in Tourney kits if we can just find a few more players.

Rebellions, and local armada communities in remote areas, are built on hope, right?

"Role call" is interesting, but grammatically incorrect

Hope and generous participation prizes to reward travel! ?

We have a few Armada players here in Sioux Falls, SD. I know the @SgtDurandal has some activity out in Rapid City SD. @Mogrok is somewhere in Canada within driving distance of Fargo.

I can vouch that @deDios is a great competitor and I had a great game against in Fargo at the Regionals there.

Please, @Mogrok just seems to drive the width of the Canadian wilds like some crazy Armada Podcast owning Nomad these days ?. Nowhere seems to be too far to him ?

For there regional prize support the top players received a generous amount of store credit.

Driving distance in Canada is measured in parsecs right?

I meant of course in general - but in this point:

I find it’s harder to incentivize with Store credit to non-locals... Now, store credit is AWESOME for local incentives - but having something that can be handed to go rewards those who can’t make returns. A mix is perfect?

Here in Calgary, we have a solid 30+ player base, with about half as much again in Edmonton and the surrounds, but getting people to make the 2 hour drive down is very difficult. We had a handful for regionals, which is great to see, but most of the smaller stuff is local only.

Im basically not adverse to outright bribing ??

I want to encourage repeats, so I have some PILES of some upgrade cards - some 60+ XI7, Leading Shots and TRC that I keep to hand out to repeat newcomers / as well as making sure I have even just those on hand to incentivize current players to keep attending.

?

I am actually 2 hours north of Minot just across the border. So not far at all it is probably the closest major city to me that and regina.

*shameless bump* (hoping for a couple of random prairie dwellers to find this post)

It was so cool at the Winnipeg regional to run into a solid group of players that are not a plane flight or a Mogrok nomad trip away.

Are there any store championships in Regina SK or Rapid City SD? It's hard to find lists of store championships in Canada.

I'm working on making a case for a decent Store championship in Minot or Bismarck ND.

@SgtDurandal and I are in Rapid City. There are players in Rapid who have bought ships but they seem to be more casual players. We haven't run into anyone here that plays as much as we do yet. Our local store used to hold some Armada events but on their last flyer Armada had been dropped. There hasn't really been anything like the store championships that you'd see at other places.

We could do more to promote the game too, like actually play at the store against each other, but as of yet we haven't been able to arrange that in our schedules.

@SgtDurandal & @durandal343 Sounds like we are farming the same moisture vaporators. I've got a note to Bismarck players to figure out who they are. We (the 2-4 of us) mainly play in my basement.

The closest Store championship I know is Fargo, so I'm going to see if we can rig something up (at least once a year) in the western dakotas within range of you guys, us, maybe the S Canadians.

Keep us posted and in the loop! I have a fairly good relationship with the guys that run the local shop here (Who's Game House). If the Armada Milkshake could bring more boys to the yard I may be able to convince them to offer some more organized play events here.

Also, if any of you find yourselves in the Black Hills make sure to drop us a line. We're looking for guest admirals to feature on our YouTube channel!

There are two of us in Dickinson, ND that play. We used to play weekly at the local game store. However, we had to change our game night and the store couldn't accommodate so we moved to his basement. Since then the store closed, but we still play weekly.

We fly pretty darn casually.

Hey that's like what... 3 maybe 3.5 hours from us? I used to drive up there once a month for work until the oil boom dropped off a bit. Might look to head up that way periodically in the future soon. If you guys ever get a hankering to head south let us know. We try to keep it pretty casual here but @durandal343 and I have known each other for far to long to be civil to one another. We're super friendly to new people though! But not in a creepy way... well not too creepy anyway. ;)

I'm from Colstrip, MT. I usually travel to Billings to play, but once and awhile I can get a game going in town. I'm about 2 hours from the ND border.
Shameless plug for next week's game I am hosting in Billings at a store called KAB. Recreating the Battle of Bilbringi!

If you are claiming Tatooine than I declare Las Vegas to be Jakku.

I mean, I'm technically in ND over half the year...but you already knew that :P

I think it's closer to four hours, but still not bad. I was going to check out Who's Game House at one point when we were at Roam'n Around, but ran out of time.

Clearly I missed this thread last week in my lurking. I'm basically the Winnipeg rep on here it would seem. I feel like it's almost a given that we'll be having an SC again this year. Our crew has been slowly growing with a few recent additions which is great. Was excited to see all you guys come in from various parts to participate as well, that was fantastic. And my game against you @deDios was easily my favorite from the weekend, haha. Those black squadron dice against your ships were utterly betraying me.

Winnipeg events are typically tracked in our Facebook group here: *removed* (this is a combo X-Wing & Armada group). I'll do my best to get a post up here for when our SC gets announced this year.

Hey I would highly recommend making a dedicated Winnipeg armada group. Any armada discussions tend to be buried by xwing stuff. Especially when all the x wing players just say anyone up for a game...without specifying what game.

Yeah I've been considering that just to separate us out and not get lost in the noise. Maybe this is the time to just do it and leave all those X-Wing people by themselves.

We were just talking about how nice it would be to do something in Dickinson. Most everyone there would have to drive 100-300 miles, but it would cover a 'region' that doesn't have a lot of Armada options (Minot, Bismarck, Colstrip, Rapid City). It's too bad the store closed down.

This conversation may not produce any concrete events, but I'm glad y'all responded so we have an idea of who is playing around here. It's kind of my playstyle to create options.

If we keep finding a couple of guys each week on this conversation, it'll be worth annoying the rest of the forum from more civilized parts of the galaxy.

NECROMANCY! - Hey all, I've been kicking around the idea of organizing a casual tournament here in Rapid City, South Dakota this Fall. Might be able to provide kit prizes but if not The Durandal Initiative could potentially provide some swag to the winners. Since our local game store closed it's doors today this tournament would be held at a venue in Rapid City, SD TBD. I've got several available options that would work depending on the level of interest.

What I'm wondering is.... are there players in or around the Midwest region that would be interested in attending assuming scheduling works out? If this is something that you could see yourself at please sound off.
