I thought I would share some of my Tatooine buildings I have been working on.
I just used some cheap cardboard boxes from hobby lobby. They were on sale for .99 cents. I had tons of scrap styrofoam, bendable straws, plastic hoses, and tons of MDF bits. I also had some PVC pipe pieces for some of the larger pipes coming out and into the ground. They are not complete and I still have a lot of weathering to do and painting.
I used vinyl spackling with some fine sand mixed into it to cover the whole building. I then used a dark brown spray paint, then a tan then some white to highlight it. I then mixed my own Yellow/Brown Wash and covered the whole building. I finally am going to take some darker wash and splotch it around on the building to add some variation and weathering. Finally, I will paint the little pipes and hoses and finish the doors and I should be done. Oh...then toss some small printed propaganda posters on it. I will post more photos when finished.
