show your setup

By Carcass, in Runewars

right now I only had one game and looking forward to my next one tomorrow, but I fear from our first game that the second one will be similarly chaotic

so it would be nice to see some pictures of your gametables during the game, where you put all the card decks and so on

maybe it helps to better organize stuff on our playing space for the next game (maybe our table is too small?!)

greetings

To keep things organized I have a Plano modular tacklebox that I use to keep all the tokens sorted, both during play and when the game is packed up. You can find them in most hardware/outdoorsman type stores and they're usually pretty cheap. I do this with all my FFG games (as they tend to be bits-heavy =D) and it works like a charm. One player (usually me) gets the duty of handing out tokens when needed and putting extras back while we play, which speeds up setup and tear down time as well as keeping the table clean during play.

As for the cards, for the moment I just set out all the decks in one corner of the table (most of them are small so they don't require too much room.) However, I recently saw a pic over at BGG, I think, of a card tray someone had made using foamcore designed to hold all the decks in an upright position. I'm considering building one of my own. With a little modification it might even work as storage for the cards in the box, and then all I need to do is take it out and put it back, like my Plano for tokens.

I'm also planning to make room in the Plano for neutral units since the baggie they're in now makes finding specific types messy.

I pretty much do the same thing as Steve-O. The FFG games have so many tokens, pieces and what not, you sort of have to pick up some small sort of storage boxes. Plano is popular, but you can find similiar things at craft stores. I have a host of old card boxes from my CCG days and I tend to concentrate the cards in these for storage. During play, I just organize the cards in one area.

With Rune Wars I picked up some card protectors, but, I have not decided if I like them frankly. Its almost makes them more finicky.

dinner tables!!!! the cheap walmart, fold up dinner tables... 4 does the trick with plenty of table space for cards an stuff,

I keep the cards sorted in business card holders. I had been using them for all the cards in Arkham Horror, and they work great for RW. I don't have a picture of the RuneWars setup, but here's an old pic of my AH set up.

Essentially, I've got one rack that holds the Season cards in the bottom tier, the Hero, objective, and treasure cards in the second tier. The tactics cards are on the third tier, and the Quest cards are on the fourth tier. Since the Fate cards are used the most frequently, I've got them in their own business card holder that get's passed around to each player as they need to draw cards from it.

To keep the hex pieces from sliding around, we roll out a 3'x3' section of grip shelf liner. It stays secure on the table and keeps the tiles firmly in place. When the game is over, the liner is rolled up and put in the box with the rest of bits.

We're playing again this Saturday, so if I remember, I'll take a pic of my setup.

I have all my components in small zip bags - one for each type. All my cards are in sleeves which is nice for protection, but the cards become a bit annoying because big stacks are thicker in one end than the other and the cards slide around easier.

Perhaps such a business card holder would be nice for play, to make sure cards stay in place and don't slide around.

Tokens I just keep in some small plastic bowls that I bought.

Well, I finally had a chance to take a pic with my RW cards. All the cards take up just under an 8" x 4" space of table.

That's brilliant! What size is that card holder Tsugo? I've been looking for one of those, but I have a hard time finding one I think fits like that.

Out of curiosity, Tsugo, it would appear those cards are also sleeved - are those the FFG sleeves? If not, where did you find sleeves sized for the mini cards?

I don't know what Tsugo used, but I don't use FFG's sleeves - too expensive. I use Maydaygames' sleeves; for a slighly lower price you get twice as many sleeves. They are a little thinner, but I actually prefer that, and they seem pretty good quality to me.

I use these. Same company as dragon shield.

I got the business card holder at Staples, but most big box office supply stores carry them. The dimensions are: 3 7/8"H x 7 7/8"W x 3 5/8"D. The rack was just under $6. I didn't take a picture of the holder the Fate cards are in, but it's essentially the same, just a clear acrylic holder for a single set of cards. That one was $1.

I do have my cards in the official FFG sleeves. While I agree they are a bit pricey, I really like the quality. Also, unlike other sleeves I've used in the past, these ones don't stick together.
