Target Lock/Synchronizer Logic

By SkullNBones, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Scenario:

Ship A and B are flying for the glory of the Empire. Ship A has Target Synchronizer and target locks Ship C (a Rebel Scum). Ship B has the ability to fire its ordinance at any ship it has a target lock on while sporting a Weapons Disabled token. So Ship B also target locks Ship C after preforming an Advanced Slam (receiving said Weapons Disabled token). His superior Imperial weaponry allows him to seek to Harpoon his target without initially spending his Target Lock. The question I pose now is, can he spend Ship A's (his helpful wing mate) Target Lock (via Targeting Synchronizer) to reroll dice, thus preserving his own for the following round (should the dastardly Rebel scum survive the initial onslaught)?

In short:

Ship A (with TS) TL's Ship C
Ship B (Starwing titled) TL's Ship C
Ship B fires a missile (not requiring the spending of his TL).
Can ship B use Ship A's TL to reroll his dice, to preserve his own TL

Yes, he can.

The Gunboat can only fire if it has its own lock, but it can use its buddy's to reroll dice (per FAQ that's how TS works) and retain its own.

second scenario:
Ship A (with TS) TL's Ship C
Ship B (Starwing titled) TL's Ship C
Ship B fires torp (requiring TL to be spent).

Can Ship B spend Ship A's TL to fire the torp (again, preserving his own TL on Ship C)?

Yes.

It works. Why wouldn't it? The direct use of Targeting Synchronizer is to use another ship's TLs when performing your attacks, whether spending to fire, or spending to reroll. The more obscure uses (Advanced Targeting Computer) of a target lock are not enabled.

With OS-1, the restriction is only that you have the target locked, not that you spend the TL to fire, or that you only use your own TL to reroll dice.

I think the combination would probably be pretty reasonable with Proton Torpedos. Like, a Kylo Shuttle and a pair of Proton Torpedo Alphas.

Yes.

Also worth noting in this instance that B could also then spend its own lock to reroll dice on the torpedo, if it wanted to. Or, could do them in the opposite order, spending its own lock to fire, and its ally's to reroll if it wanted.

This is one of my favorite gamer interactions. As soon as I got the gunboats, I paired them with an Upsilon that has FCS and Weapons Engineer.

This is fairly helpful:

Note that you cannot use the target lock for effects that do not SPEND the target lock, or that are "attack: target lock". So, for example, you can't use another ships target lock to trigger a tie advance with ATC's additional crit.
