Concussion counter to Fenn?

By BVRCH, in X-Wing

So I'm contemplating swapping out harpoons for concussion missiles for my regionals list. It has its obvious benefits on paper, but has anyone made the switch and had success?

P.S. I'll be running them on Warden Squadron Pilots with GCs.

That’s a funny way of spelling GUNBOAT

As someone who plays alot of low PS ordnance carriers, and someone who played Triple K-Wings back when they could bomb, I will offer my two cents.

I assume you are running with TLT on them? If you are running guidance, this will be a must because, as a PS 2, you will not be getting Target Locks on the first round of combat. You'll need to, instead, skirt the edges and pick up a TL when you can. Otherwise, I would go LRS so you can get the lock, then fire with a focus. A Focus with Concs is pretty solid. I used to play a Conc-GC alpha striking build, and I found the Conc-GC combo to be pretty solid. However, it is so outclassed by Harpoons that it is a tough trade to make.

The bigger concern I have for your list is I worry that those wardens are going to melt. I played Triple Ks with Bombs and was pretty good with them, but some matchups were just autoloss. I know your list will look very different, but I'd imagine you'd struggle too. Right now, the only really effective K-Wing is Miranda, so I would suggest that, if you want to play an ordnance K-Wing, do her. If you want to play Rebel ordnance, Nym-Miranda is very effective. You lose 1 ship, but gain tons of PS and Bomb shenanigans. The other cool thing about Nym-Miranda is it is a pretty flexible list, so you can tailor it to your play style.

The final note I'll make is that Fenn is definitely a threat, but alot of squads are teching for Fenn, and you'll most definitely want Harpoons in those matchups. Concs are not bad, don't get me wrong. I've had alot of success with them in the past, its just that Harpoons are so much better its hard to give them up. Hope that helps.

Hahaha. It is pretty much the rebel version of Kylo Boats.

My list currently is as follows; [99pts]

2x Wardens - Harpoon missiles, Ion Bombs, Courier Droid, Guidance Chips

Poe (PS8) - VI, Autothrusters, R2D2, Adv. Optics, Black One

I've had some success with it so far, even without a secondary turret. I started off with LRS but have recently changed to chips as the telegraphed ordnance was too easy for my opponents to fly around.

I usually try and alpha the most dangerous ship, and then kite the K's around the remaining, and make them choose which of the 3 ships to chase. I naturally fly very defensively and have gone to time a few times with all 3 ships still kicking.

My biggest issue so far is offensive output if my alpha strike is unsuccessful.

Fenn isn't a huge thing in my local meta, but I know some of the interstate guys will be flying Lothal Fenn.

I was trying to make a list of passive mods that might help neuter Fenn's ability:

Elite Talents

Expertise
Predator
Lone Wolf
Marksmanship
A Score to Settle
Wired
Fearlessness

Crew:

Wookie Commandos
Dengar
Bossk
Agent Kallus
Emperor Palpatine

Other:

Concussion Missiles
Proton Torpedoes
Guidance Chips
Pilot abilities like Keyan Farlander, Ibitsam, Captain Jonus, Horton, Han Solo, Rey, RAC, Poe...

Anything obvious I'm missing?

Accuracy Corrector springs to mind, plus anything that adds extra dice or dice results, such as Advanced Targeting Computer, Opportunist, Expose, Backdraft, Backstabber, Mauler Mithel, Scourge, Scum Kath, Kavil, Zeta Leader, etc (I appreciate many of these abilities are situational).

Trajectory Simming a Thermel Det at him works well as does assigning him a stress token at the start of the combat phase ala Asajj.

Also, classic Rebel BTL TLT Stress Hog turns him off as well.

Cant use his ability if he already has a stress token.
