How do you condition yourself to remember things like Hera calling the shot or Jyn’s hair trigger?
Remembering
For Hera, I have a token on her that I flip when I use it. That might help you remember. I used to play Obiwan, and I placed a focus card under his deployment to remind me to focus someone when he died (I place deployment cards of defeated figures aside).
Things like that can help. But the main thing is practice, practice, practice. ?
And that’s what Vassal is for ?

I do practice but certain thing just evade my attention. I have the hardest time remembering the block tokens with riot troopers and missing those really devalues the figure
I use a campaign activation token for those types of abilities.
Hera’s Call the Shots, Han’s Return Fire, Jyn’s Hair Trigger, and Onar’s Get Down. It’s not foolproof because I’ll occasionally forget to ready them during the ready stage, but it’s better than nothing.
With your riot troopers, maybe keep the block token on the deployment card. When you exhaust the deployment, your hand will be right there to grab the token.
Other suggestions could be to practice with fewer deployments which means fewer abilities to remember and/or using the same deployments over and over for a while until they're second nature. Read the deployment card super often when you play new figures and question yourself when moving/attacking/defending/etc., "Did I get everything on the card for this figure?" The aforementioned technique on using tokens to remember abilities or setting a die on your deployment to remember auto evade/damage are great reminders too.
Don't feel too bad either. Players forget abilities or small nuances all the time. It doesn't mean we neglect overcoming these slip-ups, but we're all human and it's bound to happen to the best of us.
Practice, practice, practice ...
The thing I forgot most of the time was the eStormtroopers focus on death. Since I lost a tournament final because of that, I tend to forget these things less likely ...
@Kenseventy and I both played Rangers at the Michigan Regionals. Not once did either of us remember to hide them after a kill! Even after we talked about it, I forgot to do it in my top 8 game. LOL.
I used to have issues with Blais too, so I started holding a hide token in my hand. I also almost used Hera twice at Michigan Regionals as I legit forgot that I already used her. "Thankfully" a helpful spectator pointed it out. LOL.
So in short, I get messed up on it a lot. It mainly takes practice, otherwise there will be missed opportunities on both sides.

This right here. Like you said it's conditioning, getting into the habit, not remembering. Practice so much that when you play with an Imperial list you'll unconsciously try to use Hera's Call the Shot.
Thanks guys. Short of writing a reminder on my hand, I've never done it but got close for one tournament, I was just wondering if anyone had a trick.
One thing that might help with abilities like Hera's and Onar's is to think about it with your positioning. You should be planning on where your other figures will end up when you're moving, say, Hera, so that they will be able to use her ability. That way, when you move your other figure up to perform an attack, you're moving into a space you've planned for, which might spark your memory to use the ability.
As to other tricks, use those condition cards. If you keep forgetting to focus your Rangers, consider putting a Hidden card on the deployment card and another Hidden card under where you roll your dice. Plaster those things everywhere, lol :-)

I like keeping a hidden token on my point dial because that is usually the first thing I update after my eRanger murders a poor little weeqway ![]()
Ahem...I forget sometimes...but I just blame being 'Old' (60 this coming Sept, and still gaming my a** off), so I use alot of the tricks the lads have suggested here.
youth and speed are no match for old age and treachery....![]()
