Dreadnought Class Cruiser in the new Rebels Season Finale Trailer

By ianediger, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey guys, is this an AFMKI on the last page of the Armada FAQ?

(My example won't upload but go check it out, bottom left image)

The pic with Adar?

Yes, it's an assault frigate. It has a top fin and everything.

Nice. Been waiting for those to come back into canon. I mean...not sure how it fits, given how much we've already seen of the Clone Wars with nary a sign of them - it's possible they'll retcon it into a bit different a history than the EU version had (as they did with the Quasar Fire). Cool to see it, though! (Still wish they'd found a way to get the Victory-class in, anyway)

I'd say that the most interesting thing about this appearing in the final episode is...why spend the time/effort making a new 3d model for a one-off usage? OTOH, we also know this same team is working on another, as-yet-unspecified Star Wars CGI series. Sooooo...maybe they are borrowing some art assets they've already done for that series, to add some more background elements for the finale of this one?

I kind of doubt they would use it for the upcoming series since it is going to be called The Resistance and might be set just before TFA or between TLJ and 9. Granted that is speculation and maybe Filoni wants to do some kind of version of the Thrawn trilogy for that show. Or, I can continue to hope/dream that they will do an animated trilogy of the Thrawn Trilogy hopefully with Mark returning to voice Luke.

Hopefully this means we'll see the Dreadnought coming soon to a wave.

So down with that!

If you stop right at 0:12 you can see the Dreadnought from the front in the right corner. Pretty much looks the same like in Legends :)

Just from the two shots we see him in the Dreadnought looks downscaled and smaller than a Arquitens which is 325 m long. So maybe the Dreadnought could be a new Corvette for the Empire? Would make sense balancing-wise since the Rebels have the CR90 and Hammerhead. (Arquitens doesnt really count as a corvette to me, although its my favourite ship in the game right now)

Based off the size from the promo do what do people think, is it a small or medium ship?

Definately small. Even if they stick to the Legends size (600 m) its just 20 m longer than a MC30c (580 m).

Well gladiator is +/- 520 meters old dread is 600 it can be big small base or as you said change The scale like quasar or interdictor recanon

Problem is what purpose does it surve in game?

Its not like it will be as powerful as some of thebother ships we already have. So will need to be cheaper.

This pushes it into areas that are already occupied by other ships that maybe faster with similer damage less hull maybe.

I'm pretty sure the AF Mk1 appeared in the Force Unleashed II. So I'm pretty sure it's already canon and basically a lock for us to get at some point.

TFU wasn't even canon to Legends, that I recall. Heck, it was barely even canon to Star Wars video games.

You would need a ‘little more’ than that for the Katana Fleet. ?

There should be a hard card upgrade to Ion Cannon Batteries when they do make these ships for the game. And of course the Katana itself.

With a special card that allows that ship to pass commands to other ships in the fleet.

Fun fact, the Gladiator appeared in The Force Unleashed II; it's only non-FFG appearance other than in Droids. The AFMkII only appeared in Empire at War. There was an Assault Frigate MkI in The Force Unleashed II, but only in the Wii version (it was a normal Nebulon-B in the other versions) - but it was a slightly different design (Gladiator in the distance); somewhere across between the Nebulon-B2 (designed for TIE Fighter) and the older, Rebellion-style Assault Frigate.

The Force Unleashed was supposed to be part of a "new canon" project, meant to create a proper, consistent, canon background-to-the-rebellion story. But it failed, and then Disney took over, Rebels happened, and now various books.

Anyway... based on the two shots in the trailer, the Dreadnought there looks roughly to scale with the Legends version; quite a bit smaller than a Star Destroyer, but maybe twice as long as an Arquitens cruiser. Something like as long as the MC30 or Interdictor (and maybe 2/3rds the length of a VSD).

So maybe another medium-sized ship for the Imperials; but one with a lot of blue dice, possibly strong side arcs, weak front/back arcs?

Look, I'll buy it. Pretty much anything FFG throws in this game I'll purchase gladly.

But, **** this is what the **** thing reminds me of:

Thats a very PG mind you have there. I was thinking something a little more...... appealing to the ladies. That is the politests way i can put that.

I'd be jazzed if they went the Quasar route and gave the Empire a ship that was effectively a stripped-down cheap medium specialist ship. I wouldn't mind Command 3, Squadrons 1, a mediocre nav chart (not bad, just mediocre), and underwhelming defense tokens and upgrade bar if it just let me put something on the table that can throw a few red dice at a low cost and not need a commander to fix it (sorry Arquitens). Would be nice to have in support of more serious heavy combatants like VSDs and ISDs.

I would guess from the shape of the Dreadnought that it will be a broadside ship, but then again we are entering Arquitens territory. Maybe something like 2 red, two blue out of the sides and both Turbolaser and Ion Cannon Slots? Make it a mini MC80 Home One. Maybe give it no dice out of the front and rear. Would make a nice candidate for slaved turrets then, which is also lore-friendly since the Katana Fleet was heavily automated. Speed 2 on a small ship would also be cool, i feel like we have SO MANY speed 3 ships right now that the game could need some more slower ships. Or if they make it a corvette size ship then speed 4 would be interesting for the Empire.

I was thinking along the same lines for the Dreadnought, except something like a red and a black or two forward. Maybe a non-unique title to give a bonus for making only a single attack though, which could further stack with Slaved Turrets

Would be interesting to see a command-3 small-base ship, too...reflecting the (at least EU version's) famously-challenging crew demands for the Dreadnought.

Command 3 normal.

Title: Katana fleet (non uniqu/task force)

Reduce the amount of command dials assigned to this ship by 1. (4 pts)

Something like that :)

Make it 3 points to fall in line with Relentless

Or if you wanted to make it *more* thematic...overprice the ships by a bit, then...

Title: Katana Fleet Flagship (unique)

Reduce the amount of command dials assigned to this ship by 1. You may equip the 'Slaved Turrets' upgrade at no cost. (0 pts)

Title: Katana Fleet (non-unique)

Do not assign command dials to this ship during the command phase. When a ship with the Katana Fleet Flagship title reveals a command, assign a command dial set to that command to this ship. You may equip the 'Slaved Turrets' upgrade at no cost. (-4 pts)

I love that idea!
