What if TLT wasn’t in the game?

I've missed when Miranda with just TLT was dominating the game, I thought she was about missiles and bombs and things as well? My mistake.

Miranda was in the game for a full wave before Sabine crew punched people in the face and said, "Hey. You bomb now."

Likewise, she came before Chips/LRS. Conventional wisdom that ordnance was bad didn't get challenged enough by Extra Munitions alone.

So... yeah. Typical build was Miranda + C-3P0 + TLT, because everyone already knew 3P0 was great on 1 agi ships and it was obvious that TLT would be amazing. It fit in with Regen Poe + Stresshog, or 2x Wardens + TLT + Tactician.

I suspect that X-Wing 2nd Edition will use the surge system that they use in their other games (Legion, Descent, IA etc.) It opens up a lot of options.

To an extent, it's starting to: Armada uses something similar, with various weapon upgrades letting you 'spend' a critical for other than its default effect.

Other mechanics to use criticals alongside I'll Show You The Dark Side could work. Also, 'spend' is starting to pop up as a concept.

Yup, I'd expect suges in addition to different dice in a putative 2.0.

I don't include them in my proposals for new dice to be added to the current version because they'd require a LOT more rules text to implement, not to mention a lot more writing on the upgrades that use them.

It's easy to suggest changing TLT from 3 red to 2 blue, or HLC from 4 red to 3 black (or whatever way), or to suggest the ability to add doublehit/doublecrit results. It's a lot more difficult to suggest adding surges and then the fact that what they do would be defined on a per-ship or even per-upgrade basis.

What I would like to see for dice in *X-Wing 2.0 is to separate out accuracy from damage, kind of like how Imperial Assault does it with range and damage. That way you could have different attack levels still be viable. Perhaps the A-wing can only do 2 damage max with its laser cannons, but they're super-accurate, where-as something like torpedoes do a crap-ton of damage if they hit, but have a really low accuracy, and so on.

*(I realize I am helping to derail my own thread, but... oh well. This topic interests me) ;)

This was my go to competitive list for quite a while and it very often came down to Miranda vs. one ship which was virtually an auto win since red dice inflation hadn't really taken off yet and being able to ignore 2 damage a turn meant you were largely invulnerable.
