Runewars Versus: Courageous Contention

"Fight"

So... they played a game, and then staged a bunch of photos around the terrain bits they used when initially advertising the game?

Why not just take pictures of the actual game in progress? I'm confused.

Yeah, that's a good question. Even the starting setup doesn't accurately reflect where the units were positioned.

"the Latari divide their forces in twain, with two trays of Archers, two Scions, and one hero on each side." Really? Because when I look at the picture, that's not what I see. Also, who would set up the Oathsworn Cavalry or Leonx Riders headlong into a Fae-Infefsted Glade?

The articles seem to be geared towards people who have never played before, where veterans like us raise our eyebrows at some of the photos and diagrams.

Not to mention looking as if it was set up on a... what is that? 4x3?

yeah I noticed this too.

Like who is going to put Cav there in that spot so they immediately run into terrain they can't enter....

O well, still enjoyed the article.

My guess would be they don't have the complete armies painted.

So paint them.

The company making the game can't spare the time/energy/money to get two armies painted to tabletop standard?

I am just glad they are doing articles about Runewars! While it might be a little basic for the experienced player, I think the approach is great for a potential new player. Run a game between two people with little or no experience so it's relatable, and see them having a good time and learning things. Give a little bit of basic strategy and game play, but nothing too overwhelming. Help craft the narrative as we mentioned in one of our podcast episodes, the narrative of a battle unfolding is one of the big draws of this type of game.

I take it as a great sign that FFG wants to get more new players interested in the game, which I am all about!

I think these batreps are to fill the gap until legion hits stores, then it'll be back to runewars, maybe get some new unit announcements around April or May, which would be sensible considering that'll mark one year for the game.

So, pretty standard for an FFG news article. Playing "spot the error" is the favorite pastime of FFG hobbyists, right?

Well we do need to pass the time until Boaty McBoatface makes the journey from the factory ...

Yeah it looks really dumb the way it is setup and shot.

It would be better and cheaper to have two guys play the game and a third one get some shots with a DSLR and available light :D . Or just record a match for your youtube channel. They have the worlds streaming setup...

Owen: I have a couple of training games under my belt. I’m also a student of Sun Tzu’s The Art of War , which should give me the edge in the battle. I’m just worried about ruining my friendship with Allen. He’s a nice guy and I’d hate to see him get dejected when I soundly defeat him.

I it just me or does Owen sound like the worst...

Sounds like tongue in cheek trash talking as all :)
