Who wins this game? (show your work)

By NeverBetTheFett, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

I don't see a similar scenario posted already on the forum, but I may just be missing it.

Scenario:

The score is 39 for Greedo and 37 for Imperial Officer

The Officer shoots and puts through enough damage to kill Greedo. Greedo performs his parting shot and puts through enough damage to kill the Officer. Who wins this game?

My guess:

Greedo defeating the Imperial Officer triggers the end of the game, is then defeated (note that the defeat has been triggered before end of the game at the same time as Parting Shot), and the game ends 41 vs 41, so VP's from defeated figures determine the winner.

Points are scored when a figure is defeated.

The game ends immediately when someone hits 40 points.

Greedo isn't yet defeated during the Parting Shot attack, so the officer is defeated first and the Greedo player wins?

OK, with YOU two giving me different answers, I don't feel so bad being confused about this. It came up recently at a tournament and the group was split. It made for a great discussion.

Greedo's Parting shot was triggered before the officer was defeated. You have to complete the entirety of parting shot before the game ends. Parting shot ends with "then, you are defeated." Greedo must be defeated before the game ends, putting the score at 41 - 41.

Todd's explanation includes the idea that if you go over 40 points during an ability, you still must complete the rest of that single ability. (In this case it was being discussed whether the player with initiative would win a mission where players weren't scoring simultaneously at the end of a round)

Not ending the game in the middle of an ability makes sense.

It is the risk of attacking somebody with parting shot. In this case its a tie and in other cases you could be giving the other player a victory. If its going to be so close, rather attack greedo from where he doesn't have line of sight
