5-6 player free for all- what do you bring?

Update: We played a 25-point ffa with 4 players. We had:

Laiten? Scyk w/ Heavy Scyk, Flechette Cannon, and Hull upgrade (25)

The cannon is terrifying when you have several foes on all sides. Glued to the evade action!

Nu w/ arsenal loadout, ASLAM, Cruise missiles

He kept winging around the map for shots.

Cartel Muarader w/ 3-mod title, Pulsed Ray Shield, Ion Dischargers, Hull upgrade

Very solid.

Deathfire w/ Prockets, LRS, Munitions, Proximity mines

I think a bomb would have worked better than a mine, honestly.

The Scyk died first (Stealth device would have been smarter) and the Cartel Marauder was in the lead when we called it.

Interesting, I would have thought her laetins ability would make her a late game target, as it means nothing in a one one one fight, while the nu with reloading cruise missiles seems the scariest.

The gunboat player had never flown one before (he was having so much fun zipping around the map) and I (the most experienced player) was focused on. I feel the results would have been different with stealth device and more defensive play (perhaps trying to just stress people at key moments)

It was so much fun though.

I do like this idea, I have a few friends that play X wing, but we have never tried a free for all. I am going to suggest it but not sure what point limit should be, 25 or 33 seems good to me, leaning more towards 33 so more unique pilots and upgraded ships could be used.

I'd agree with higher value. 25 points gets you a pocket ace or a minimally equipped generic. 33 would open it up a lot.

Locally, we play free-for-all furballs with the following rules:

  • One ship only. Squads overcomplicate everythying.
  • Small ships only. This greatly reduces the possibility of a massive, immobile traffic jam when 6+ ships all bump.
  • 35 points. This prevents some of the most broken combos (Nym + Bomblets) but allows most everything else.
  • No Lone Wolf. It's too powerful in the format, and lends itself to boring builds.
  • Simple point system... 2 points for a kill (and only for kills), -1 point for a suicide (fleeing the table, asteroid crash, etc). Points go to whoever owns the source of the fatal damage, meaning Harpoons can be pretty nasty at surprise kills.

Typically, the best ship on our tables is ship with lots of health, that can snipe and kill-steal from others... typically, with damage sources that either can't be blocked, or with passive modifications. Last time, it was a Warden Squadron K-Wing with TLT, Sabine, and Bomblets. Nobody wants to bother shooting a ship with 9 health, and with multiple ways to hurt people, it could often finish off somebody that barely survived early rounds.

I'd suggest avoiding cards like Push The Limit, because all it takes is one unexpected stress or an unfortunate bump to destroy your action economy for the turn. Predator is good, Dengar is great. Fire Control System can be nice, but you really want to be able to swap targets quickly, however the situation warrants.

Bring a single Academy Pilot. Never tell me the odds!

Cutlass Squadron Pilot with Lightweight Frame. 9 health and 2 evade dice against almost all attacks, plus one of the lowest health-to-cost ratios in the game for that kind of durability.

Let's see....what would I bring for 40 points to a FFA ?

Jek Porkins (26) with PTL (3), R5-D8 (3), Shield Upgrade (4) and, because I have the points, Proton Torpedo (4).

Will it win? Probably not. Fun to fly? Oh **** YEAH!!!

Played a 35 Point furball recently, the guy that won was running:

Major Vynder

Arsenal loadout title

VI

Harpoons

Advanced Slam

It was amazing, moving last or almost last, being able t slam and still fire Harpoons it was filthy good.

Not sure what you could do with the other 5 points, maybe a flachette and plasma torp? maybe a homing missile? lots of options but stupidly fun.

Prockets might do the trick. Get a good range one missile that does need some extra set up, but doesn't spend the TL, and still have 2 points for a bid.

Something that is suprisingly fun to play in that format:

Constable Zuvio: snap shot, cad bane, 2 x cluster mines, pattern analyser, cloaking device and tractor beam.

His job is not to kill a whole lot of targets, but rather to get a lot of points injuring several of them. His mines also makes him a pain to manoeuver around, especially for those wishing to play aces.
