Found another pic from the event. Looks like even leaders of state enjoy a bit of casual X-wing.

I think you mistake Poland with Russia :)

Apart from that, everything you can try with Scum can be done better by either Rebels or Empire IMO

Unless you're stating "Timewalk Asajj is the only really borderline broken combination Scum has left", that opinion shows a severe lack of imagination (or a serious case of myopia) to me.

The current trend away from Scum is temporary at best for me, just as - like SOTL posted at the top of ther page - the trend away from the Empire was temporary following the Palp nerf. Rebels - especially the Ghost/Fenn combination but also Dash, Nym, Miranda, Poe and the Auzitucks - are dominant at the moment, but the nerfs to Scum have seen a lot of players go back to Imperial archetypes which were previously left on the sidelines.

For Scum, BroBots (especially ControlBots) have seen a resurgence during the Regionals season, and have been getting very good results. Dengar is still a threat, despite the JM5K nerfs. Nym is still a threat, despite the Trajectory Simulator, Genius and Bomblet nerfs. Fenn Rau is still an excellent pilot, despite the Attanni nerf. Generic Scurrgs and the Kimogilas make excellent Harpoon platforms. StarVipers are being seen in unprecedented numbers, and not just Thweek. Torkil can warp any match in Scum's favour. Players may have temporarily moved away from Scum lists, but there's more than enough quality across the faction for it to make a revival once the meta settles down.

What would be Scum's niche then, if he's wrong?

The only really top tier thing Scum currently has is Timewalk Assajj, and she lacks. Apart from that, everything you can try with Scum can be done better by either Rebels or Empire IMO

I don't think it's anything specific to this particular meta, it's the outcome of how Scum came in underpowered in the original Wave 6 release, which was then overcorrected in later waves and then got nerfed.

Like, I was going the Rebel pilots going "yeah, Green Sqd & Jake, then Han, Rey and Chewie, and Norra & Thane...", and then you get to Scum and are like "Dengar, Asajj, Ketsu, Fenn, Nym... I guess Palob? Kath? N'Dru?". In my binder I've got roughly 4 pages of 'good' pilots for Imp and Rebel but couldn't fill two pages of Scum. There's just too much of the older stuff that's way under the level.

A mistake Russia has made more than once (maybe a little bit on purpose).

Not at all. Mr P. is a man of the world. He doesn't mind a bit of travel. Probably rode his tame tiger to the event. :)

When what you're competing against is also 'borderline broken', a lack of similarly powerful options means the faction is less competitive.

When the meta settles down, Scum will, barring new releases, still be left with little stuff that measures in power to top Rebel ships. Pretty much every single tool that was keeping Scum at the top of the meta got nerfed hard (JM5k, Attani, Nym), while most tools allowing Rebels to keep up were left largely alone (Dash, Sabine, Miranda, Lowrisk). Add to that the fact that Scum got the least competitive options out of the last wave, and its looking pretty grim.

I'm not saying Scum is terrible, it's just less powerful than either Rebels or Empire currently. You can build a good squad, and do decently with Scum (there are Scum lists making cuts and even winning here and there), its just that, IMO at least, with the same amount of effort, you'll get better results with Rebels or Empire.

And at the other side of the table you can see a shirtless Andrzej Duda playing

Yeah, I botched the match and Ɓukasz outflew me. Also, I really have no idea why I shot at Inquisitor instead of the shuttle when I had the chance... I remember thinking that the shuttle will just run away and its pointless, but I think that was really dumb, I'd have to rewatch the stream. Plus, Expertise + Yorr was a really nice counter to my counter (R3-A2) :)

That's exactly what I was thinking. It looked like the initial engagement you could've boosted straight for free shots at the shuttle and it would've been really hard for the shuttle to ever get arc on you again after that, but I dunno. Interesting to hear your thoughts on it though. That is how palp aces matches used to go and still do it seems...if the shuttle gets 3 or more shots off, it's probably bad news. If you can limit it to 2 or less, you're probably golden.

Oh well though, good job on making top table!
