Riddle me this: how scalable is the game?

If you're going to have multiple players on the same side (do not play free-for-alls), get Corellian Conflict and read the All-Out Offensive scenario. It's designed to handle three 500 point fleets on each side. It keeps many of the multiplier effects in check.

So, in X-wing, my "standard" games are 150 as opposed to the traditionso 100 points. Could we say bump our games up to 600 points and 8 rounds without breaking anything?

Having played Correlian Conflict fleets at 500 points I found that a comfortable increase. However when we played the final battle 1000 points per side we... gave up after 4-5 hours. There was too much to keep track and we were forgetting all sorts of abilities/upgrades. We were running it with only the 2 of us so maybe a 2 v 2 (500 points each) may’ve been better and I can appreciate the idea of restricting upgrades to one per ship.

Me and @Destraa did a 1500 point game, using the CC all out assault rules, except only one Admiral. It was great fun, we got to turn five in around five hours. At that point the outcome was not in doubt so we stopped.

That has been my experience as well. The higher point games take longer, but require fewer turns to determine a winner. 4 or 5 turns is all that is required. I have never had a 1000+ point game need a turn 6.

Indeed. Around middle of five it was patently obvious Empire had the upper hand. I think with a bit more practice we could speed it up more.

We have a 1,000 point epic list scheduled for a weekend. A full weekend.

Eventually, once we get Armada down as well as we know X-wing. I'd like to remove the round limit and go all out in a similar fashion.

Armada is a game that's much more about objective play than X-Wing, and the rounds are a critical factor in this. Certain game objectives are capped in their score only by the number of playable rounds, such as Fire Lanes and Contested Outpost. Certain ships are designed to be objective grabbers, leaving them exposed to full combat for several turns on end will just result in dead ships that don't seem to contribute much.

^ This.

Set the round cap to 7, no more, unless playing on a wider table than the 3 foot standard.
