Worlds Tickets

By Palanthas, in Star Wars: Armada

I definitely didn't buy tickets for Adepticon to spite FFG for not letting me go to Worlds....

@Snipafist @geek19

I’m still waiting for an email- rejection or otherwise.

Strange. I got a mail for X-Wing for a random seat. But no mail for Armada for the reserved seat.

Waiting on my reserved seat as well.

I applied for my reserved seat not so long ago.

I think the deadline was late march or something?

More or less. The system they are using is really confusing and really a bit stupid.

First round of reserved seat was with deadline 20th. These, that reserved the seat before the 20th of February should have got a notification yesterday.
But the seats can be reserved till 26th March.
But i really don't understand how they can make a general application when they don't know how many are applying for seats. And even worse, when there are still seats given out via regionals.

I assume they have maybe 50-60 seats for each day. Lets say 60, this give a pool of 120 player.
If they want to keep the seat open for all that have right for a seat, these are at way more than 120 players (top 4 EC, top 4 NC, national winners, regional winners, world champions). And all can still take their seat until end of March.
When seeing this numbers, there could have been no way at all that they could have given out a single general application seat at all.

  • February 5 — Applications open.
  • February 20 — 11:59 PM CST. General application closes.
  • February 23 — Invitations sent to players drawn from general application. Invitations sent to reserved seat holders who submitted an application on or before Feburary 20th.
  • March 4 — 11:59 PM CST. Purchase deadline for general applicants with invitations.
  • March 26 — 11:59 PM CST. Application closes for reserved seats.
  • March 29 — Invitations sent to reserved seat holders who applied after February 20th. Access codes sent to general registration applicants for games with remaining seats.
  • March 30 — NOON CST. Press applications due.
  • March 31 — NOON CST. General applicants may redeem their invitations on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • April 10 — NOON CST. Any remaning tickets are made available to the public

Yes, I was rather confused. So I just sent in the application and decided not to think so much.

I got a spot for day 1. But I'm 90% sure I can't go. Real bummer.

yeah the more I'm reading it's like almost everyone who actually plays and wasn't a regionals winner didn't get in. <shrug> From our local meta not a single person got in which is crazy weird given it's size.

I got a seat for Day 1, but honestly a major part of the draw is going to see friends that I met last year and new friends from the forums.

Hopefully everyone ends up getting in, and this was just a way to discourage the people who register for Armada as a second game and olay half the tournament and ditch for IA or Destiny.

Were that the case, I would only have released tickets to random persons after having gone down the list of those who only signed up for Armada. Which I can personally guarantee is not what they did.

Was Armada a full house last year? I know the tickets sold out in 20 minutes, but there can't be that many people trying to go right? I'm shocked at how few people actually got a spot.

As already said. See how many reserved seats need to be reserved. There cannot be many slots left for generals. Just count together: NC top 4, EC top 4, world champs, national winner, regional winner. These number must be far over 120.

I guess Armada will have a big stock of free slots on the "first come" on 31th March.

My plan involves watching the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to see how those kids got tickets. I don't think I've got the decent luck and humanity of Charlie in me, so an army of my father's best nutshellers it shall be!

Yeah I'm gonna be really bummed if I can't snag one.

It was pretty full, but we were also in the FFGC main hall last year, not at the kids' table the Radisson. I believe it was 86 players showed up for the first day. Don't quote me on this, but I think I remember somebody showed up to try and snag a no-show slot and couldn't get in. Could be thinking of another tourney there, though.

Also, 10ish dropped between day 1 and day 2--it was all one heat, which seems not to be the case this year.

it was 86.. I was on table 43 for round 2 :) Lots dropped from there as they got knocked out of prize brackets...

Have they considered running each Star Wars event in it's own week so they can allow for several 100 players to join instead of a very small pool that keeps most out?
That way they could use the FFG game center to play Armada instead of the hotel conference rooms, and I would think most players that want to go could get a slot?

But there are people who legitimately go to multiple... how do your chances feel st getting 3 weeks off work?

I guess their goal is different to that idea...

they want a singular event event as they are easier to organize and pay for from their end... plus it’s onky one weekend where people aren’t working their usual jobs...

ftom their pointbif view, restricting players to lower numbers is.... irrelevant and yet a benefit... makes people want it. Makes it exclusive and desirable... makes people talk about it.

until it fails at THEIR goals they won’t change.

and it has not failed yet.

I would assume that it'll be held over the weekend as opposed to Wed-Fri (which usually means taking 3 days off).

I envy people who get every weekend off for 4-5 weeks in a row.

In the very least, multiple events are more expensive in money and manpower.

its not in FFGs interest. Simply and regrettably so.

That may fix the time off issue, but what about the travel to the wilds of Minn. 2+ times for those weekends. It is cost prohibitive for me, especially in a multi week format....

No disagreement here. Unless it'll become too popular I don't see it happening either.

Is it possible to play in more than 1 event without dropping one sometime in the middle? I tried to play both Armada and XWing at a Worlds a couple of years ago and it wasn't possible. There was always some match conflict.
