Speeder Bike article

By Undeadguy, in Star Wars: Legion

So, have they covered how units of multiple vehicles work? Because it seems like simply placing them in coherency with the unit leader wouldn't work given the importance of their firing arcs.

Also, does the Imperial force in the demo only get one Speeder bike? Because if not, the Rebels are really outgunned (50x2+160+55 vs 55x2+200+90)?

Speeder bikes have to be placed in cohesion AND same orientation/arc as the leader. Alex Davey says this in the early demo video.

Each "unit" has a number on it's card that says how many minis are in a unit. So if you take a speeder bike, you always have 2 minis per unit, or 1 AT-ST mini per AT-ST unit. This really cuts down on unit cohesion confusion, but the units must be facing the same direction in cohesion.

They say this one comes with a different sculpt. However the preview photo it really looks like they are the same sculpt of each other.

Different than the core set. In the core, there is a trooper using his blaster to shoot behind him. In this pack, both are looking forward.

In the expansion one is faced forward similar to the core. The other is leaning forward - as if ducking or trying to cut back on wind resistance - and turning. The top biker in the FFG preview picture is the one leaning. It’s just hard to tell because of the way the model is positioned for the photo.

Does anyone have pics of how these flying bases attach to the model? Also, pics of the one for the T-47?

We were “rule teased” by FFG recently, and these virtual cold shower articles are NOT very exciting. I did preorder plenty of rebel scum, and thus I am ready to take this relationship to the next level and get a full look at the sexy rules. xD

Have there been unboxing videos? I’m guessing the facedown comm card in the photo is a mistake since it wasn’t spoiled.

It was spoiled technically. The speeder bike includes two copies of Comms Jammers.

This angle helps. Thanks!

On the back of the bikes, is that a sleeping bag or poncho? I know the old 12” Hasbro toys they were ponchos but is there anything official?

I think I am most excited to play with these. I hope their speed does allow for some interesting tactical decisions, but I am afraid they will be super fragile.

They do offer up several solutions in the form of zipping out of range instead of getting shot at, although you might consider ending a round with them as the last movers and beginning the next round with them as the first movers. Given their speed they could fly into range, attack, and then fly out of range before the enemy can shoot.

I think that strategy will primarily against fixed firing arcs. I don't think you will be able to get away from troopers with 360' firing at range 3 very easy.

They have Cover 1, so they have a little bit of protection at all times, and you use their mobility to scootch them behind more cover to get more, or break line of sight. They also do get defensive surge. They are a little fragile, but you definitely have the mobility to keep them protected from a lot of threats.

The one thing you want to make sure of is you never get caught in range of a Blast weapon though, that'll strip what little protection you have.

Also melee takes away their cover 1

Long range comms seems to me the better choice for Speeder Bikes. With compulsory move 1 the bikes will both be easily out of command range and have difficulties keeping an enemy in range 1 for comms jammer.

If you have multiple speeder units and Vader battle meditation is more cost effective than running long range comms on all of them.

I am interested in seeing how effective jammer is on speeders I think you are right about it being difficult. I'm probably going to run mine naked.

While battle meditation is more cost effective, you only have access if you bring a force user

That and it can only issue orders to one unit outside of your normal range.

I've always assumed it was a "soft carrypack", as in the items to carry are placed on a sheet, which is rolled up and secured as in the image.

However, it could also be a tarpaulin to place over the bike when its not in use to prevent damage from liquids and/or thrown objects.

I’ve never thought it could be those. I like the Tarpaulin idea.

I forgot it was only one. Now I'll have to reconsider.
