Played First Game Question

Horror Check Question, what do you do about players who were out of range for the initial horror check who later encounters the monster after the initial check has been made?

For example, Monster appears my character checks and passes while a second player is in a different room an cannot see the monster. Then on the player's turn, the second player enters the room and sees the horror for the first time. Does the second character not need to check? If so how?

I cannot find a way in the app to do so. I checked both the player turn and mythos turn by clicking on the monster. Thanks in advanced

You only ever need to make Horror Checks at the end of the Mythos Phase when the app prompts you to. If an investigator moves into range later, they only make a Horror Check if they are still in range of the monster at the end of the following Mythos Phase.

It's absolutely legal per the rules to start your turn out of range of a monster, move into range, make a ranged attack, and then move back out of range so you don't have to make the check (assuming the monster does not move towards the character on its activation).

Thank you for the response and that is what I was looking for. I do have a follow up question. How does the app know if the player is in range at the end of the Mythos phase? I suppose the honor system. I also have not been able activate the horror check screen. I plan to play again this weekend and see if I am missing anything. thanks again

No. The app does not track locations of monsters, items, or investigators after they're initially placed. Like you said, it's a bit of an "honor system".

As far as the "horror check screen"... I'm not sure what you're looking for. When the game tells you to make a horror check for each investigator within range of a monster, simply click on the monster that someone is close to and follow the directions (remembering that all investigators within range of the same monster make the same check and that each investigator only checks against the single monster with the highest horror value that they are in range of each turn).

Thanks Again, we played a second game last night and what you described was what happened. A lot to forget and remember with only one game under our belt.

Do you check horror for the same monster twice, that is again in the next turn, if the monster survives to the next Mythos Phase? or just a single check per monster? We thought every time even if it was the same monster checked before.

Cheers

During the Mythos Phase, it's more of a case of each Investigator makes a (one) Horror check against a (single) Monster within range (three spaces), or no Horror check if no monsters are within range (the app may still pick on you through other checks it decides to throw at you). Each investigator determines if there is more than one monster within range of their particular Investigator, you choose the Monster with the highest Horror rating (the blue number on the matching Monster token), choose it from the Monster tray in the app and select Horror check (or whatever it appears as).

There's times when two (or more) Investigators are within range range of the same Monster, in this case, choose the Monster in the app, and both Investigators resolve the same Horror check (although it's the same check, such as roll Will to negate Damage, depending on the results of each Investigator it can affect them differently (one may suffer more damage while another resists the effect altogether, as an example).

When each Investigator has resolved their Horror test against a monster (again, some Investigators may be out of range and don't need tomake a Horror check), you move on in the app.
