Tie Striker & AA

By ImperialOfficer, in X-Wing Rules Questions

In a local tournament last night there were several strikers flying about.

Several times throughout the night, a player with a stressed striker asked about Adaptive Ailerons.

The card says if you are not stressed you Must execute the maneuver.

It doesn't say the stress prevents you from doing it though.

So if you are stressed, and since AA is a white maneuver, can you choose to execute the AA?

I'm not seeing anything RAW that would prevent the player from choosing to execute the AA.

Thanks,

You only trigger the card if you're not stressed. If you are stressed, you read 'if you are not stressed' note that you are, and stop reading.

The "if you are not stressed" is a condition that must be met in order to perform the ability. If a ship is stressed it cannot use the ability of the Adaptive Ailerons upgrade card. In this same way a stressed ship, due to the "if you are not stressed" requirement, cannot trigger Maul.

This key phrase is a condition on when you may trigger the ability; you must be about to reveal a maneuver dial and you must not be stressed.

Perfect. Thank you. Makes sense.

One could say that you might have an argument with they way the card is worded, but in earnest, the card doesn't grant you any kind of "boost" ability, it just simply says you have to do the maneuver if not stressed. You are not given the ability to do the move with conditions, you are being forced to. Its not one and the same.

The X-wing Rules Mantra applies... "Do what the card says, not what the card doesn't say."

That was how we ruled it when it came up. Glad we did it right.
