Imperial Patrol Vessels

By PzVIE, in Game Masters

Please consider a setting around Episode IV: What type of vessel would the Empire employ to enforce Imperial law in the Outer Rim?

I'm talking about hunting smugglers, apprehend wanted criminals, preventing small uprisings, inspect suspect ships, etc.

Probably a larger number of smaller craft, and for the outer rim older stuff.

Vigil corvettes, Raider corvettes, Arquintes corvettes, Ton Falk "escort" carriers, Strike class cruisers, Victory Star Destroyers. The occasional Imperial class destroyers, probably used as the command ship.

If you want to get old school you can also toss in stuff like the old Customs Corvette.

There's a website called the D6 Holocron which has free PDF's of the old RPG books by West End Games.

The Imperial Sourcebook contains a number of smaller Imperial vessels which might be what you're looking for.

Lancer -Class Frigates, EF76 Nebulon-B Escort Frigates, Gozanti -Class Cruisers, and Imperial Customs Frigates would all be solid choices as well as the ones others have already given.

I've loved the strike class cruiser since 1991 (or was it 1992?), basically when I first laid eyes on the artwork in the weg book. I also liked that edition of the game in the sense that turbolasers had longer range than concussion missiles which meant if the strike cruiser stayed at the extreme range of its weapons it could send more flack at a victory then the victory could send back. That was a critical plot point in one campaign. Unfortunately WotC reversed that which meant the campaign novelization didn't make sense anymore.

A while back I went through the legends imperial fleet page and pulled the ship classes mentioned there for the galactic civil war. The ones with an asterisk were the ones with FFG stats at the time. Aside from surpressing small uprisings, the missions you mention would probably be executed by cruisers or smaller (possibly with a smaller ship or two as escort).
