Bombs Away! Deathfire!!

I am a great fan of Deathfire. Simply because it's fun.

I prefer proximity mines, extra munitions, Light weight frame and. ...

Seismic torpedoes : no more hiding behind asteroids, which turn into bombs.

Maybe not tournament material, but combined with two TIE/D Defenders it's fun

I was looking at this ability yesterday and being able to move first then barrel roll either way and then drop the bomb that just needs to overlap the enemy ships maneuver template makes it in theory a pretty easy ship to hit action bombs with as its a huge area . if you use this with a conner net you could hypothetically have this ship run drop the bomb and make the ship do a 1 straight next go then behind the bomber 2 or maybe 3 gunboats going slow way behind him with lrs then all of the gunboats do a 4 straight with tl focus on the ioned 1 forward ship and it's a KaBoom!!! This is just going on in my head so what would probably happen is the bomber gets blown up then the gunboats carry and win

The dial is certainly a older wave 1/2 type of dial, and is limited for the other TIE Bomber pilots, but is actually serviceable for Deathfire's needs. It isn't as scary as a pre-nerf K-Wing, but those got nerfed for a reason.

These are the areas you can move and drop an Action bomb at low PS and hit our target before they have a chance to move for the TIE Bomber on left, and Deathfire on the right.

I do agree the chassis is slightly overcosted compared to the newer Alpha-class as far as ordnance ships go.

Edit: Deathfire can also drop Action bombs directly behind on reveal, which other bomber pilots cannot.

On a more serious note this thread really makes me want to put my Bomber on the table.

GUNBOAT and Bombers should be friends! Ion pulse missiles from NU sets up shots for expertise Gamma Vets with Advanced torps (only one shot each tho). Or Marksmanship Vets with one EM. Large ship hate for sure.

I do love Deathfire for sure, and have played him a lot, and have a few thoughts.

1. Letting him equip more bombs (like in the missile slot) won't help because he needs to stay cheap.

2. Therefore, I would love a title or upgrade (could be missile or torp) that, at 0 points, allows you to put an ordnance token onto any equipped bomb upgrade, Imperial only. Rebels have Sabine, and Scum have Cad Bane, but maybe the Imps can get a 'tech' instead of crew. Something like this:

Imperial only

You may drop bombs using the 1 banks, or the 2-straight. You play place 1 ordnance on each equipped bomb upgrade.

Torp slot, 0 points.

This helps Punishers and Bombers out, and gives Bombers a bit of an identity compared with Gunboats. My normal build for Deathfire is:

1. Harpoons

2. EM

3. LRS

4. Clustermines

This would let me save 2 points (as I could dump EM), and now you've got a pretty solid 25 points. And now with gunboats, I think we need a title for Bombers and Punishers that allows for 2-3 modifications that cost 2 or less, so you can get LWF and either guidance or LRS. One day Deathfire...one day.

My justification is that while the TIE Bomber may not have been manuverable compared to a regular fighter or interceptor, it was more maneuverable than other dedicated bombers like the K-wing, Punisher, etc.

Yes, Please! Either one of these!

Deathfire is one of my favorite 26 point fillers. I like him with Cluster Mines, Cruise Missiles, Guidance Chips, and Extra Munitions. I haven't fielded him much because right now I'm flying Soontir Fel too much. :)
