Adepticon Casual Games?

By schuwa, in Star Wars: Armada

For someone who is trying to gauge whether to attend Adepticon for a single day (and has never gone), is there a place for players to play casual games, or is it only the tournament (Thursday and Saturday)?

If the latter, then how onerous would it be for a casual player to come to? Meaning, "I am not looking to successfully win, but I would like to play and have a good time." I am familiar with the tournament rules, etc, but just want to get some game in more than anything.

There are tables littered about the hallways where I'm sure you could get a game in, provided you found a sparring partner. There are also lots of tables in the main hall/FFG area, of which I'm sure you could probably find a few spares to play on as well. Your best bet is playing in one of the tournaments, though, and it's okay to be there just to roll some dice and see what happens. You'll likely lose at least 1 of your games, but that's okay. There's a roving beer cart (I'm not kidding, there is literally an ice cream cart except it has beer) on hand to make you feel better.

Since Armada is the only game I'll be playing up there, I might be up for some casual play. Maybe we should get a "Corellian Conflict in One Day" group together. ;) I'm trying to get together with some friends in the burbs that day, so I'll just keep an eye on the thread.

That sounds painful. Even if you can power through each round in 2hrs, (as in build, assault, play) you almost have to hope it snowballs to get done in a day.

Yeah, it was a crazy idea. It does look like I’ll have plans in the evening, so Friday daytime would be a great time to get some more casual runs of lists played.

Side note: there's a lot of good food up around Schaumburg for anyone who is coming to visit. In particular I'm a big fan of Kuma's Corner because a heavy-metal bar with the world's best gourmet burgers is something that deserves all the moneys.

Gentlemen, this is the Slayer. It's a thick amazing beef patty on a bed of fries covered in chili toppings, andouille sausage and green onions and melted cheese. It's massive. It's delicious. I'm a 6'4" ogre of a human and this thing is two meals for ME. Go to Kuma's hungry. That's my advice.

I think im gonna be sick just looking at it...

It looks like I'll have most of Friday free except dinner. I'm up for whatever including something interesting elsewhere in the city. One of my options is poker at the casino, but I'd also consider a low-stakes game with you fine folks.

Wow......... wow.... I could do without the fries though (Carbs = bad) , but this makes me sad that I'm not going. I was considering flying in to help out run the Legion events at adepticon but ultimately decided against it due to timing...

But yeah this looks amazing! (Maybe there will be something similarly cool at Gencon.)
